Ill add to the BIS requalifiers for gold wishing they got this offer to go for platinum.......

My dad got the 2x return J flights offer, he’s earned 30SC this year… looks like someone’s a little desperate to keep hold of premium flyers.

This is going to really piss off those who retained their plat the hard way and were hoping the QF refugees would drop away. Interesting idea though, and better than just comping IMO.

I was status matched but I haven't flown QF since then so it has worked for VA in my case at least. I re-qualified for VA Plat three months ago and I've still got nearly two months until my renewal so I am a little conflicted by this offer. On the one hand it does annoy me that people who haven't put in the hard yards (obtuse pun intended) are getting it easy. On the other hand, I love what VA have done in such a short time - the hard product is pretty good (not yet QF I'll admit) and the soft product is excellent (well above QF IMHO). And we have genuine airline competition in this country. So I want them to continue to do well. I just hope they don't do this again in 12 months' time.

I wonder if we can combine this with the Virgin Flyer CC 2 for 1 offer? There is nothing in the T&C's saying you can't combine with another offer... And it means MrsDeKa could come along for the ride.

Do 2 for 1 offer flights earn full SCs?

Yes they earn full SC

Interesting. Mildly p'ed off although 2 return J class fares are decent investment of time and cash.

Well you won't like my offer then, not even 2 J returns.

That's the one I got. But I will actually requalify platinum. And to think I was planning on getting all indignant about all the non-retainers getting a freebie. Guess I can't since I've got an offer as well. Can I get indignant about DJ giving me an offer than means I can't get all righteous and indignant???

Sounds a bit desperate

2 flights at around $700-$900 in total to keep platinum membership!

 Two return business flights - four flights all up (I missed the two the very first time I read it)

A little frustrated by this. I have earned and retained gold already and will qualify for platinum and I have never received a single offer from VA, all be it double status credits or anything.

C'mon VA, show others the love!

What class does a complimentary upgrade that platinums receive book into? I was status matched, have only flown two sectors and received the 'fly two business class return' offer. The terms and conditions say that the two return flights must book into J or O. I doubt it would work but just thought I would ask.

I got the 2 x J return flights offer as well. Review date is September.

It's not a bad deal in theory, but in spite of the good cost I don't have that kind of money to spend right now and within the next month. So, I'll just bite the bullet and let my Platinumship lapse.

I had 5 flights with 20 SCs this year as a Platinum - 3 of those flights were awards.

I'm wondering if, as a status matched person, I'm going to be hard dropped instead of soft. I don't think the sector rules come into effect until next membership period, so I think I'm "covered" in that respect.

I don't think this is desperation by Virgin - as we've come to learn, they're quite happy with their performance and turnout in terms of the status match and "retainers" they've been able to court. All this is just to try and win a few more "retainers" to keep the game a bit snappier. It would be a nice buoy as well since there's some dress work being done at Virgin at the moment.

Mine have booked in Q

Sounds a bit desperate

It always remained to be seen how they were going to deal with the hordes of people that were going to fall short (by lots, by a bit etc)

Status seems to be a powerful motivator around these parts, and all the offers do seem to require you to do some travel. So, I think, a pretty smart marketing tactic.

Agree - Getting/keeping people in the lounge and the baggage allowance etc etc is probably going to keep a few more bums on seats for another year!

I think it will be well over $900 for 2 return J class tickets.

From a marketing point of view, this is not a bad tactic from VA, despite the fact that it may not please some of their loyal frequent flyers. I am guessing VA's current attitude is "our loyal customers will understand what we are trying to achieve - which is to capture our competitor's market"

i asked an agent about this a few days ago and they said that status match will also have soft landing ... lets hope they are well informed .. tho i got an even better offer to retain platinum i think i will take up ...

if the net result of all this is meant to take some flights away from qantas it certainly is working in my case

I received a slightly different offer.

Pity I booked a BNE-SYD-BNE Qantas flights a few days ago for early August, I still have another BNE-SYD-BNE flight to book, also I have a planned trip to Melbourne in August so wondering if I should shuffle things around a bit.

One annoying thing is I received the email today 17 July but it started from the 15 July, what is going on there.:!:

Unbelievable timing for me after I posted this yesterday:http://www.australianfrequentflyer....gnificantly-better-than-41374.html#post646669
