Dear Mrs Straitman,

Your Review Date on 9 September 2012 is approaching and we appreciate that you are only beginning to enjoy the benefits of Velocity Frequent Flyer and the experience of flying Virgin Australia.

As an exclusive offer, we will maintain your Platinum membership for one more year if you book and fly one return Business Class flight, or two return Flexi Fares with Virgin Australia or one of our international airline partners between 15 July and 17 August 2012^.

I received the fly one return J or two return flexi offer like many here. My review date is mid-October.

It is not a bad idea from DJ to lock in a few more status flyers with this promo. Pity they don't have any decent/cheap J class fares at the moment and I don't see the point of forking out close to $800 to maintain Silver.

If DJ has the J class fare promo that they had a few months back (with J class fares between SYD-MEL at $299), I might be tempted.

 Two return business flights - four flights all up (I missed the two the very first time I read it)

I missed it in the OPs post, but my offer is actually slightly different. I only need one return business flight.

Interesting.

i asked an agent about this a few days ago and they said that status match will also have soft landing ... lets hope they are well informed .. tho i got an even better offer to retain platinum i think i will take up ...

if the net result of all this is meant to take some flights away from qantas it certainly is working in my case

Pretty sure Virgin automatically give you a soft landing for all customers.

Yep keeping a customer as Gold/Platinum is sure to get some flights from Qantas, and as Virgin continues to improve, hopefully the number of flights that people take with Virgin>Qantas increases further

I have given Virgin so much cough over the past year, but I do give them 10/10 for trying and actually improving.. We could be stuck with Tiger and Jetstar...........:shock::shock::shock:

After a "interesting" flight/overall experience with Qantas last week (after not flying QF for about 4 months), I am very very very frustrated that I have another 8 flights with Qantas this year booked, and due to flight timings, I can't fly Virgin

I got both the 200SC and the 1 x J return (or 2 x flexy return) offers. I've done 300SC since being matched. All dom, mixture of saver, flexy, biz.

Got the 2 x business r/t offer as well. 30 Sc's from two upgraded flexi's, all other DJ travel has been award in pointy end.

A bit conflicted, as my NZ *GE will keep me in good stead for another three years. (In the clear light of day, I'll probably say, thanks, but no thanks).

For perspective Minimum cost to attain this offer for me is around $1700.

Interesting.

Yes interesting, quite a few types of offers out there! All things considered i would have preferred yours :p

I requalified for Plat a few months after a status match. If they offered me some similar impetus to achieve partner gold I would definitely do it! BTW - exactly how many points do I need (in total) for a partner gold? I have had about ten flights this last fortnight and would gladly share some love with virgin if I knew I was in reach of that :-)

It actually less SC cost to pool your SC's after attaining WP to your Partners account - they'll get SG sooner, even WP perhaps.

I think when you first go up the ranks it's 2500 to partner gold. But if requalifying I think it works out at 1500. But pooling is an idea, members in the pool need to live at the same address.

This is good timin for me, I was going tto be 100 sc's short to retain platinum and got the 200 bonus offer

Wow they really are desperately trying to keep all their status matched plats...

Got the 2 return flights in business class offer to keep plat. When I tried to fly VA J I was downgraded so a little bit ironic! Won't be taking it up and will slide to Gold.

My work mate got the 'book any flight and get 200 sc free'....

Mmmmmm.

While I think these offers are probably quite clever, they'd reduce the risk of alienating the BIS Plats by offering a similar promotion for the beginning of their next qualification period... something along the lines of:

"you are a loyal platinum customer, and in recognition of this, we'd like to offer you 200 SCs for your first flight in your next qualifying period"....

Just got sucked into this promo (got the 2 return J one). Doing a day trip to SYD this Sunday and changed next weekend's flights to MEL from QF to DJ. Now I'm $1746 poorer

I also received the option of 2 x return flexi fares to maintain Platinum, quite a nice offer really. Unfortunately I won't have a chance to take the offer up as next few months are fully booked already. :(

I agree. I'd gladly receive an offer in order to maybe be able to retain my newly minted WP. However, I think what works to our disadvantage is that those DJ FFers not on AFF would be blissfully unaware of what other members are being offered and therefore not concerned.
