Making the most out of the whole glorious Qantas First Class Experience

I'd temper that advice with the potential need for an emergency evacuation where the flimsy PJs are considered undesirable ..... by none other than professional pilots such as JB.

I'd listen to JB's advice ... all day.

On SQ F FAs give out PJs with the specific advice 'put them on after takeoff'.

I never change before take off and always leave my shoes on for the same reason: in the very unlikely chance of an emergency.

I once met someone on BA0038 when it landed short of the runway at LHR. Her advice: always have passport, money, mobile phone with you so that you take them with you in an emergency evacuation.

THe major dosappointment in QF F is that many of the entrees and main courses (or should I say small and main plates…) are exactly the same as in J. There may be more courses, different drinks, pyjamas, amenity kits etc but not completely different meals. Not good enough really. Having said that, QF J food is far better than the restaurant food in EK's DXB Flounge. I recently had a very similar dish in the DXB Flounge and then on QF in J: the Flounge food was just OK (if it was a normal restaurent I would not bother going back). The food in QF J was excellent.

I was more impressed with the food in DXB F lounge then the food served onboard QF F.

The lobster disk in the EK F lounge at the moment is to die for

We often stay in the Airport hotel and go to the F lounge for dinner and breakfast. We've had some good meals in the EK F lounge. Their T-bones were excellent.

I look forward to trying the lobster soon!

Sounds good, will try it on my next stopover.
(I assume you meant to say lobster bisque, or was it lobster dish? Lol).

My favourite was the miso infused salmon.

Also impressed by the choice and quality of wines and coughtails.

I suspect a 'disc' of lobster, or as the wanky food writers in The Age would say, a 'puck' either way quite delish

Actually IIRC Stephen Downes used the term 'puck' often in his reviews...speaking of wankers. I fondly remember him also using 'meniscus' instead of cartilage...honestly. Might need to use a capital W

Is it the case that the food in F is the same as that in J?

A lot of the main courses and starters are exactly the same. There are different acompaniments e.g. canapés, salads and bread and the wines etc are different. The problem is that the main part of the meal is often the same as that served in J ( but not necessarily the meals in J on that flight on that day).

Really not good enough if paying for F.

Thanks for the feedback katiebell and Princess Fiona. This will be an AA booking, so I may continue with the booking as who knows when I will next get to try the syd f lounge/F product.

But... sharing mains between cabin should ensure F pax always get their first choice - and status shouldn't come in to play (some airlines will take orders based on status).

I think all QF F and J meals come with the ingredients in the little foil containers which are then plated?

Not the point: if (when) I pay ($ or points) to fly F I expect everything to be better than J commensurate with the much higher price. Even more so as QF make such a big deal about F.

BTW, all J & F pax can be guaranteed first choice of meal by pre-ordering on line (something that QF has done that is actually a real improvement)

J can - I didn't think first had it? Also it doesn't always work - we pre ordered JNB-SYD in March and our food wasn't loaded. Mind you given the year I am having that is probably to be expected....
