A bit off tangent here... If I book syd-xmel-dxb where mel is a long transit (13hrs) and I intend to go into the city for the day, would I be eligible for CD to pick me up in the CBD to take me to the airport?

Yes you do. I have used the service in Melbourne (as my transit point) on multiple occasions.

No. CD only applies at start and end points, not intermediates.

I have had CD in Melbourne (as a connection point) on multiple occasions. I believe the stop in Melbourne needs to be longer than a certain threshold (8 hours??), but I have been told if on EK flight, CD is provided regardless of length of stay in the transit point.

I can never recall seeing Comtes (vintage by definition), for example, in the QF F lounge. IME, it's usually been four - all NV, with the main ones being Taittinger, Bollinger, Veuve Clicqot and another NV. ...
I had it in the MEL First Lounge just the once.

It was promotional, being shortly after the Comtes was introduced to QF First.

Has anyone ever had some of the "better" Penfolds wines onboard in QF F? eg Bin 389/707, St Henri, RWT, Magill Estate, other?

10 years ago... (maybe more?) had Penfolds Bin 707. I didn't drink it, much to the dismay of all the wine folk I know!

QF used to offer it even in J once (707 or 389 can't remember exactly which one). These days can't get similar quality even in F!

On our next F fight I have a hope of getting both the Leeuvin Estate Art Series Chardonnay and a Penfolds 389 or RWT. A man can dream :)

Seems more rare than the others, but did have it on QF93 in March. Admit I was quite surprised to see it.

in my (abeit pretty limited) experience I'd say it's Taittinger as more likely to be offered, followed by LGD, then the Pol Roger Sir Winston. I'm sure others' experiences will vary.

Much as I would like to see the Taittinger CdC, I've been served the Sir Winston on my last four (recent) flights and LGD on at least the two before that, maybe four.

Not that I have refused any of those offerings. :)

But if anyone is faced with the T CdC and doesn't find it acceptable, please do ask them to reserve it for me? :)

This is funny. Wines like 389 'were' business class beverages. I don't drink much on the plane but the current wine lists have been poor, an "aged" Riesling from Delatite, not a premium wine in the first place, just something a merchant has flogged to QF for cheap I think.

These days many food menu items in J and F are the same, just served differently. I think the snacking menu is the same.

To just confirm with the CD for F. If I was booked on QF11 to LAX as a result of the changes would essentially have to "make my own way" to the airport from my place to the airport? Or is it still available no matter what in Sydney for all flights? The wording QF gives on the website is a little too vague. My take is that it is not available in SYD because I am on a flight to the states.

Firstly welcome aboard flyer89. You're correct re CD. It's not available for flights to the USA.
