Malta Sicily Belfast Cornwall and a few others in between

Titanic Museum and Black Taxi tour both get a vote from me.

Also check out St Georges Market for local produce, art and souvenirs. Whilst you are there, and if you aren't troubled by coronary matters, you could sample a Belfast Bap filled with a full cooked breakfast.

In 1982 I was driving my Volkswagen Beetle around Cornwall and discovered the Minack. I’d always wanted to go to Cornwall after reading all the Daphne du Maurier books when I was a girl. As a side note I had been given a box set of her books and had lent them to a friend after she was recovering from a broken arm and her husband threw them all out. I’ve never forgiven him.

I saw a production of David Copperfield and it’s one of those memories that is etched in your brain of watching the sun set over the ocean watching a play.

I went back in 2017 and it had changed quite a lot. It even has a cafe now. I also went to Jamaica Inn in 2017 and it was so tacky I was so disappointed

Eaten here a few times in Cornwall. ‘Very Rebecca ish’ views and lovely food

Is there any particular black cab tour you recommend - there seem to be a few

I'm originally from that part of the world so the only time I have done a black cab tour was circa 20 yrs ago with my then girlfriend, now wife, when we first visited my folks. So unfortunately I can't make a current recommendation. IIRC we arranged it through the tourist office but I imagine it can all be done online now.

I think our guide was originally from the Netherlands but had been living in Belfast for years. He was in a good position to relay stories from both perspectives as opposed to a more one-sided view.

We were there in July '23 and used this mob Paddy Campbell's – Belfast Famous Black Cab Tours. We did the political murals tour. The driver appeared a little hungover so was maybe not quite on his game but was he very informative and seemed unbiased. My brother used them as well just prior to us being there and he thought they were very good.

Going up is a lot easier than coming down after a knee replacement.
This is what my wife said before her knee replacement, which happened a few days ago. If she still says this in the future she will be disappointed.

For me, I think it’s just confidence. I also have an Achilles issue on the other leg which isn’t helping. If I’m in the stairwell at home with a handrail and it’s well lit I’m fine. It’s just going down those tricky uneven steps with no handrail.

Head office is there. I’m being indoctrinated for two weeks. 😝
I'm surprised than anyone's head office is in Belfast. At least for a going concern.

I've only been there once and was very concerned about my security. Being a Brit who lived through the Troubles and with Irish ancestry (as it happens my son married someone called Kelly and my daughter married someone called Ryan) I wouldn't happily go there again.

But for tourists and others, just go for it.

I’ve not been before so will be interesting to see what it’s like

No need to worry nowadays. They've pretty much stopped killing each other by and large.

I grew up there before moving away in the mid 90s. The city centre is a changed place with heaps of investment in retail and restaurants. It's now a popular destination for mini-breaks which would have been unthinkable in my day. You'll have a great time.
