Yes, agreed. This event is only 10 months away and will be planned properly in another thread. We wouldn't want to be distracted.

Hopefully I didn't just break out in sarcasm.
I assume JT and I will continue to use this thread. No point having two.

While the light hearted banter is great, can we please try keep closer to the topic of this thread, thank you.

Either way. I don't see the point or the need to move posts. It is 10 months away, vital information will not be missed.

ok i seem to have a better deal on HSW prices
Flexible bookings made!

Now i just need to figure out what the family is doing!

I am still definitely interested in attending but I get this feeling there won't be any discounted airfares at this time of the year.

This is the first year in a long time airlines are not discounting during school holiday periods. I have been able to get some sort of discount in the past even if that discount was offered for short period of sale.

How do the JT Air 'Amenity Packs' compare to CE Air?
Sorry Cruiser Elite. I have only just spotted this. On JTair, you would be lucky to get a bottle of water, so there is no contest.

I have just spoken to Platform 28 about a Christmas booking. However before I went into the details I asked if their 3% Amex surcharge on our last visit was policy or an aberration, as we had not been charged before. They confirmed that charging a 3% surcharge on Amex is their policy, so I told them (very politely) that not paying a surcharge was ours. So we will not be at Platform 28 this year.

Fear not, though, as blackcat20 has a couple of alternatives up her sleeve.

Talk about shooting themselves in the foot for the sake of a few $$.

I did a Trip Advisor report on Platform 28 a couple of weeks ago and commented that they look to have lost our ongoing custom due to their Amex surcharge.

I wonder if it will make any difference. Probably not. :(

I was looking at hotels and was thinking of taking advantage of the fathers SPG Plat... do either the Sheraton or Westin have an exec lounge? I couldn't see anything on their sites and figured someone here would know.

Neither the Westin or Sheraton in Melbourne have Exec Lounges. But are both good hotels.

I'm currently staying at Sheraton. No lounge but very nice rooms. Executive suites are modern and nicely decorated but not as specious as the ones in SYD.
Overall I would pick Sheraton over Westin although the latter has slightly better location.

Both are well located FWIW.

I am keen to try the Sheraton sometime.

That's a bugger. Having stayed at both HSW and the Sheraton in SYD I was hoping to take advantage of something similar.

Might as well just stay with uncle Mark, he's always suggesting I come visit.

Edit: Booked my return flights on Sunday 20th so chicka and I will be there... just not sure if there'll be a train trip preceding as yet ;)
