first time I have heard of flight network, and without live bookings won't be using them.

as mentioned earlier the ozbargain link had 8500+ click-thrus to priceline.com

And I'm heading back to LA in Nov/Dec

IMO there was no rolling of the dice, it was win-win for the consumer no matter the outcome. In my personal situation either

1. QF cancelled the fare and I'm reimbursed 100%.
2. QF honored the fare and I've picked up a return ticket to USA for USD$444.

Kicking myself for not jumping on multiple bookings.
Not sure I agree.

People have been burned in the past booking connecting flights and prepaid accommodation. The Air Canada deal from North to South America comes to mind. Or was it United?

Well you wouldn't book those things until you knew the flights were being honoured.

If I wake up and find an extra $100M in my account - it's a mistake and the money will leave as fast as it appeared .... can't see the difference with this sort of caper.

Not necessarily!

I found a US Top 30 multi-national had not missed 6mths revenue from their Eastern Australia operations. In fact they hadn't missed it for some years. Led to them being delisted for weeks from NYSE until I, as a Uni student VE, signed my audit working papers.

In early 80s, all bank ops were manual, someone transposed digits on transfer AND put wrong BSB. Very happy farmer's wife (& smart) created her own audit trail of "this money is not mine" during 18% interest days. Paid tax on interest earnt. They hired a farm manager and went on permanent holiday for some years until later I found it.

Had not been discovered by internal or external auditors until I noticed a substantial balancing item in the bank recs stretching back years. Figure changed but always 6+ figures.

I recently had a large sum of money in my account for a few days, to make a purchase... despite it only having been there for a very short amount of time, I did get 1¢ interest at the end of the month! Even at the worst interest rates I wouldn't touch $100 million accidentally being in my account for a day, as the interest would more than make up for it

Once you've established 'reasonable' attempts to show it is not yours then transfer to wholesale money market and make some money.

I think you'd find that when they took the $100 million back they'd also take the interest

They can try. Will not succeed necessarily though, depends.

Not if you're smart, create an 'audit trail' and the money has not been claimed within weeks. In the case I discovered (entire Board flew in company jet to brow beat me as auditor) they tried the 'we'll bankrupt you and take your farm out from under" with the farm couple.

The lady was not well educated but knew 1 + 1 made 2. She also had a brother (maybe was cousin) who worked on Wall St. She called their bluff and said "If you think it's worth it go ahead, but I'm happy to let the newspapers know you did not know you lost millions for 5 years. Will that be good for your business?"

They folded. Had spent over $1m in legal fees with large Syd Law firm already.

How do I know? Partner-in-charge of Australia invited me along to the end-of-audit celebration. It was huge, I have never been so appreciated in my life! They pulled in anyone they could (staff on maternity leave who wanted some quick cash, etc) and paid then 2 to 3 times normal rate.

As I wouldn't sign, they could not close the audit & file their US Annual Report as it would have had a qualified audit statement detailing the issue. So they agreed to pay 'blank cheque' to track down the mistake. Audit firm worked 7 day weeks at double & triple time (M-F) and more for Sat/Sun. Took 6 weeks to find. Imagine going through every major cash flow manually for 5 years.

The current DOT policy on mistake fares, while not enforcing the fare if the carrier can prove it was a mistake, requires the airline to reimburse all reasonable non-refundable expenses such as hotels and connecting flights. This is a new requirement (in exchange for not having to honour the fare).

Who cares, your point is moot.

When the fare first appeared online there was no risk to the consumer to purchase, period.

What a bad time for me to not use the PC for a day. Happy hols for those more dedicated!

Not as sweet as a cpl days ago but still a nice fare.

$AUD805 return is still a decent fare but not at the levels of a few days ago.

On aa.com slightly cheaper

Still at $AUD750 which is a few hundred more than earlier in the week but still a great fare.

Jfk for $900 is fantastic.......however can't justify two trips being booked in the 1 week for similar dates.
