Re: MEL AP-Car park that's as big as a suburb

Still waiting for someone to show me off-site cheaper than on-site PP.

If you want undercover parking, the off-site places tend to be cheaper.

Re: MEL AP-Car park that's as big as a suburb

I have used the pre-paid MAP twice recently, with no trouble. On one occaision I was processed manually as the system was off-line (for maintenance at 3am).

I still compare prices with off-site businesses, but MAP have been quite competitive of late.

Re: MEL AP-Car park that's as big as a suburb

How much do you guys pay for these off-site parking facilities?

With the pre-pay you get up to 10days for $69 do you not? I have not waited for a bus to or fro in like 8 years or so - it's only a 5min walk and always carts available - and I have never gotten wet in maybe 100 visits.
That is cheaper than the place I use (well, the regular rates, I get 20% off as I park there so often).

My price is around $76, not pre-paid, that's the everyday price for me for 10 days. I can also have undercover parking for around an extra $9. I'd rather pay $85 for 10 days undercover.

In addition, the place I use gives me a free car wash every 5th park (which they value at $25, but it's not really worth that much IMHO).

Re: MEL AP-Car park that's as big as a suburb

Still waiting for someone to show me off-site cheaper than on-site PP.

This weekend, in Sat, out Sun

MAP LTCP - $25

A1 Airport Parking (Outdoor) Valet
$25.00 - regular price
$22.50 - with RACV discount

Busy Beaver Airport Parking (Outdoor) Valet
$27.00 - regular price
$24.30 - with RACV discount

Ace Airport Parking (Undercover) Self Park
$33.00 - regular price
$29.70 - with RACV discount

The bolded one is my 'regular' - I have had a bad (not seriously bad, but just annoying enough to make me try elsewhere) experience the only time I have used A1 and Andrew's (parent of Busy Beaver).

I always check both, and while I don't travel as much as some here (and do not always drive myself to the airport) the first time I have found LTCP to be cheaper was a couple of w/ends ago for AFF#7. In Fri arvo, out Sun night, LTCP $29, my 'regular' (undercover) off-airport park $45 (a super-duper LTCP special). Despite having abandoned (but still compare prices as I said) LTCP 5 or 6 years ago due to an incidence of 'LTCP-rage', caused by infrequent bus services at a peak travel time, the price was too attractive to pass up, and it all went without incident.

This weekend (in Sat AM, out Sun PM) the differential is nowhere near as much - LTCP $25, regular park $29.50, but LTCP still cheaper, though open to the elements. Based on my recent LTCP experience I'll give it another go, but at that small a price difference (if it stays that way), if I have a bad experience again with LTCP I'll be happy to pay a bit more and revert to off-airport parking, with the double bonus of undercover and being able to avoid the logjam of traffic at peak hours in the last few kms of the Tulla Fwy. I'll still compare each time though and, well, I have my principles, but where $$$ are involved, only up to a point. :)

Re: MEL AP-Car park that's as big as a suburb

Thanks tuapekastar for taking the time - very informative and very useful.

I am very much a creature of habit - I always drive myself to airport unless Cruiserette insists on taxi - and I always park close to T4 with short 5 min walk to T1 - the pre-pay option in LTCP perfect for me as long as it continues to work correctly.

Get a load of these JERKS!

Went to pre-pay long term parking at MEL - in at 3pm on Dec 21 - out at 8am on Dec 31 - guess what?

The discount long term car park at previous pre-pay rates is booked out for that period - normal long term car park is available at normal non-pre pay rates.

How long has MEL long time car park had clearly delineated sections for pre-pay discount / non pre-pay discount?

JERKS - is that price gouging or is that price gouging?

Re: MEL AP-Car park that's as big as a suburb

The green area to the left of the Long Term is the Value Long Stay.
Oh ok - didn't know that - but that is not what the 'Pre Pay' in Long Term was - it was just in Long Term - wonder what is going on. Maybe the discount for 'Pre Pay' in Long Term just discontinued?

Yes - confusing! I've got a booking (my 1st ever) for the Value Long Stay coming up. Note the bus times are a lot longer!

Well that has screwed that idea - I never catch bus - I walk - if you know where to park it's only like 5 mins walk.
