A friend back in Blighty mentioned that Ocean Shield has disappeared . . .

OCEAN SHIELD - Offshore supply ship: current position and details | IMO 9628374, MMSI 503728000, Callsign VHEH | Registered in Australia - AIS Marine Traffic

I wonder why it's last position is just off Perth? It was tracked all the way from Sydney and has now disappeared? Is this because it is not where we are being told it is? Has another 'vessel' turned off its locating equipment? I cannot help but be suspicious for a lot of reasons but cannot seem to explain or understand why.

LOL, tracking is from coastal based stations the same as planes, you have to pay to get sat updates.

Angus Houston on TV and still wont confirm the signal which was heard a second time as MH370.

Press conference now on Channel 9 about the ping's picked up by the Chinese ship on friday and yesterday.

Nothing new vs. what I have read in the papers today.

RAAF aircraft will be deployed to the search area alongside Ocean Shield and HMS Echo.

Seahorse Standard is also carrying a towed array.

I have just watched the media conference held by Angus Houston.

They consider the Chinese information as credible and that combined with new calculations is why they are now concentrating a large part of the search effort in that area. HMS Echo is deploying there and will be there in approx 14 hrs. P3s are also flights are also going to the southern area.

The Ocean Shield has not deployed because it has, about 2 hrs ago detected a credible return in its current area so has stayed there to investigate. Assuming it does get redeployed to the southern area it will take up to 36 hrs to recover its array, steam there and redeploy the array. It is about 300 NM from the Ocean Shields current position to the new area of investigation.

Ocean Shield has picked up a second signal 300 miles away from the Chinese detection.

Can still be the same signal, underwater acoustics is complex as an oblique signal can be channeled by refraction in the water for hundreds of kilometres. You then end up with convergence zones where the signal return to the surface.

It would be an amazing thing in a totally unusual situation if one of these acoustic events did turn out to be from the black box.
just hope it is so.

Ever been using a mapping application, and you've inadvertently zoomed out and misplaced the marker, a little like this:

Well thats where they're searching for the pings.

Latest press conference.

Ocean Shield held ping for over 2hrs then lost it.
New map with an underwater search zone that is basically a rectangle with Ocean Shield at Northern end and Chinese Hiaxin at Southern end.

I wonder how the search stategy will change once the black box ping expires?

So, if they locate a ping, what's the next step? Do they drop a camera down there?
