That does look like the bird I saw today. That story is a bit confusing - picture is from 29 March but possible 3 us identified objects are recent???
 
There are two P8s which can be seen parked over near the apron at T2 when not flying (always seems to be one on the tarmac), there were 2 or 3 wedgetails there a couple of weeks ago for a few days as well.
 
Reports coming on of possible wreckage washing ashore at Augusta.

Is it possible to remove the flight data recorder while the aircraft is in flight ?
Could a person have done this deed , thrown it out the window to ping it's little heart out without it's home(sic).. and then flown on for a while before ditching ?

While my knowledge of aircraft is pea sized relative to others on this board, I think they are isolated in the tail of the aircraft.

The FDR is not accessible in flight and good luck trying to break a window in a pressurised hull.

but depressurised it would be easier. just the same as you can open doors in flight on some pax jet provided the plane is depressurised.
