Anna, that's not speculation creeping in there is it? ;)

How very dare you ;)

Yes it is. Because I am utterly distraught for these poor families that a plane run by a supposedly decent airline could go down and nearly a week later THEY STILL DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE IT IS. Ahem. Sorry for shouting. As I said. Distraught.

To be honest I don't know what to think. Conflicting reports of last known location and conflicting reports of flight time/engine run time make it almost impossible for me to hazard a guess. I cannot imagine how the families of the pax of that ill fated flight must be feeling right now.

I am with you and I wish they would just find the damn thing.

If the plane has indeed flown into the Pacific Ocean there is no way MH or the Malaysian Government would know just where to search.
However there is an island known as Diego Garcia which according to pilots on other fora is said not to have radar. However it is home to a US air base.Said to be where the drones etc over the ME and south Asia are controlled from.
So it would certainly be conceivable that that is where this new info is from but the US doesn't want to officially acknowledge it hence the leaks to WSJ and ABC in the US.
How much have they told Malaysia. And if they have how much would the MH team be privy to?
So not sure yet we can call the Malaysians incompetent.

Although if they go looking for Diego Garcia in the Pacific Ocean we probably could, with reasonable certainty, call the Malaysians incompetent :p.

Not the point. That could well be where the data is coming from.

Just a senior moment.Cant even edit now so my stupidity is on show for everyone.:oops::confused::oops:

You can still edit up until 24 hours from time of post.

I knew what you were saying even though I have no idea where Diego Garcia is located! ;)

steady... you'll be getting a call from the Malaysian authorities to head their media relations if you're not careful!

I will be announcing the reports by the state media that the minister said both oceans look the same was "inaccurate" at the next conference.

mh370 search area.jpg

I just found this on Twitter. Not my map or work but the joke is that the search area has been expanded to cover the circled area of the map.

To think it has almost been a week.

Sabotage/ Hijacking continues to grow as the main culprit:

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Military radar-tracking evidence suggests a Malaysia Airlines jetliner missing for nearly a week was deliberately flown across the Malay peninsula towards the Andaman Islands, sources familiar with the investigation told Reuters on Friday.

Two sources said an unidentified aircraft that investigators believe was Flight MH370 was following a route between navigational waypoints - indicating it was being flown by someone with aviation training - when it was last plotted on military radar off the country's northwest coast.

The last plot on the military radar's tracking suggested the plane was flying toward India's Andaman Islands, a chain of isles between the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, they said.

Waypoints are geographic locations, worked out by calculating longitude and latitude, that help pilots navigate along established air corridors.

A third source familiar with the investigation said inquiries were focusing increasingly on the theory that someone who knew how to fly a plane deliberately diverted the flight, with 239 people on board, hundreds of miles off its intended course from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing....The comments by the three sources are the first clear indication that foul play is the main focus of official suspicions in the Boeing 777's disappearance.

As a result of the new evidence, the sources said, multinational search efforts were being stepped up in the Andaman Sea and also the Indian Ocean.

I though Diego Garcia had a big b52 base. Bit surprised there would be no radar.

If this is the true scenario, does this still indicate a fatal result?

Only if they didn't do a good job/pax overcame the culprit.

Surely if this is an official line of inquiry a few countries could have taken photos with satellites of the area already...

The insinuation was no radar that was admitted to.Probably the US just doesn't want to acknowledge their capabilities.

I would be surprised if an active Air Force and Naval base that also has a deep space tracking station and was the home of a former satellite tracking facility would not have radar, especially with the unhappiness the Indians have shown in the past over its presence.
