Just putting it out there but I think it's landed here....

Palmyra airport (and no not the Perth suburb of Palmyra)

God knows where it is but if it has been hijacked lets just hope it managed to land somewhere :(

The scale of the speculation is breathtaking.. this from p*r just a moment ago

1800km west of Perth could be in vicinity of the Diamantia Fracture Zone. 7000+ meters depth- second deepest, but most remote area of the Indian Ocean, it appears.

Looks like it will be on ABC24 when it starts.

It is disappointing was scheduled for 4pm and still no sign of starting and they wonder why the media and public are giving them a hard time and questioning the level of competency. It really is disrespectful t those poor people sitting and waiting for news of what is going, unless of course they have already advised them......

has the question on the length of the flight-deck voice recording been mentioned somewhere already?

If the jet did indeed fly for several hours, does this mean the recording of whatever happened in the flight deck will now have been recorded over? Or does the CVR record for 5-6 hours?

CVR records the last 60 minutes I think.

Actually was personally thinking the opposite, while we don't yet have the answer some key theories seem to be becoming dominant and gaining support, and others have been totally written off. Maybe it's our expectation of instant satisfaction that's the problem here!

How can anything be totally written off at this stage? No one knows what's going on and the Malaysian government is spreading lies all over the place.

The captain of MH370 built his own simulator X-Sim.de DIY Motion Simulator Community • You are new here? Say a short "hello" to all other members!

Of course the sim might be a long way from the real deal of a 777............normal hobby for a pilot?

Just hope it wasn't one of his newly befriended online buddies from the above discussion board. A person with a bad agenda who wanted to know the ins and outs of a sim could easily pose as an enthusiast on one of these sites.

I can just picture it now "hey Zaharie whereabouts is the transponder button & how do you switch it off".

As the Capt disclosed who his employer was & what rank he is, it would not be beyond the realms of possibility for some nutter to ask the Capt when his next flight was & where to then book a ticket on that flight themselves & pre-arrange a visit to the coughpit during the flight - after all they know each other right, they're best buddies. :-|

This conjecture is driving me nuts. Media wants results and something to report. Everyone wants answers as to why and a solution.

Until we have some reliable facts we have nothing, nothing , NOTHING.

Its a bugger but we just have to hope that factual information will come sooner rather than later. JoyV

I was thinking this too? I know the last thing I want to do after coming home from work is...to replicate my workplace at home.

It's different for a very passionate pilot, flying is not work... it's his life. I don't find the home simulator setup suspicious at all. I think many pilots are into flight simulation as well.

Well whatever the outcome of when and if the aircraft is found we have already found a few things that may change air travel in the future, even if it is eventually found to be a simple mechanical failure all the way through to the other hijacking/theft or other theories.

1. Passport control and actual use of the Interpol stolen passport database by more nations (despite the fact that the 2 pax on stolen passports possibly have nothing at all to do with the dissapearence of MH370)

2. Another serious look at ACARS and Transponder systems security (you would expect that pilots will lose the option to switch off transponders/ACARS and other such in flight/or while engines running). Possibly also more flight deck security changes - on both sides of the door.

3. Closer scrutiny of management of airspace and airport security in Malaysia, other political blowback within Malaysia and possibly further afield.

Obviously the eventual determination of the cause of the incident will throw up other changes that could affect how we all travel.

Press conference on now
new information:

satellite data shows MH370 was under control post flight transponder being switched off

hijack likely cause, may have got as far a kazakhstan???? OR

source cited by Bloomberg news agency, said the last satellite transmission from the airliner has been traced to the Indian Ocean off Australia, somewhere to the west of Perth.

I am confused!

I'm a train driver. I used a train simulator when I was in Japan recently.

I've clocked up some hours on a Flight Experience B737 sim.

Some pilots & some train drivers can't wait to get away from a plane/train at the end of a shift. Others are more passionate & see it more than just a job.

I would like to think that the Captain would not have given over control of his plane easily.

Got it - listening now

Refocused view to crew and pax. South China Sea search being stopped. Two new (flight) corridors to be reviewed more closely.

Well I think the broadcast strongly suggests that lines of enquiry were written off but you can keep making that argument.
