MH 777 missing - MH370 media statement

I dont think so, that plane went to FL450 for a reason, I am betting pressurisation was off.

Ohhhhhhh. So for the totally uneducated in these things, could you spell that scenario out, I assume the passengers wouldn't survive but whoever is flying has an independent air supply??

I wonder if the fuel loaded for that flight was greatly different to that usually for MH370 flights?

Sorry I don't follow, any chance of a layman's translation?

Going that high got you out of most of the traffic risk, with FL430 and below the norm in most cases, while ensuring there was the minimum oxygen in the cabin for anyone still alive after the pressurization was turned off.

Hi all - Newbie here!! Wow - press conference FASCINATING. Just wish I could've heard the Prime Minister better - torrential downpour on the roof just at the wrong time....DARN!

Something along these lines (i.e. plane being comandeered by someone on board and flown somewhere) is what I thought had happened from day one - but that was probably emotionally driven - because that explanation would provide the best hope for the passengers to still be alive. (although goodness knows if they are, even given this hijacking scenario). But how scary to the travelling public to think that a plane can fly all that way without being able to be detected? It's just incredible.

I'm wondering how this latest news makes the families feel - at least it gives them some hope that their loved ones are possibly still alive - as opposed to the bomb scenario or catrostrophic mechanical failure. What a roller-coaster they would have been on this last week- I just feel so badly for them.

But the PM did not say the 45000 feet scenario was definite.
Hopefully it is in the Stans. At least a hope for the relatives.
And also interesting that the US investigation teams were in this from early on.
So the Malaysians not so incompetent.

I have not seen any reports of any PAX mobile calls as the plane passed back over the Malaysian peninsula.

The high altitude and low cabin pressure, particularly if decreased deliberately, would quickly incapacitate passengers and crew. Presumably those in the coughpit would be prepared and have oxygen at the ready.

Would flying at FL450 give less resistance and therefore be able to fly a longer distance than the estimate flying hours on the original route? So if at FL370 is could fly 7.5 hours, would going higher allow it to fly longer?

If this is the case I do wonder what the Kiwi bloke on the oil rig saw.

My personal view on this was that while their media management was abysmal their search effort and how they involved others was fine.

Of course always plenty of people who are prepared to judge harshly but in my experience those who are most keen to judge others harshly are those who add least value themselves and hence I value their contribution accordingly.

Probably will give he families some sense of hope.

They were not in a position to make a call I am guessing, and no one will have known at that stage to call them.

Well I think the broadcast strongly suggests that lines of enquiry were written off but you can keep making that argument.

No argument. At this stage no one knows where the plane is. What we heard today was more speculations made by the Malaysian authorities, something they are doing for some time.
Let's hope, for the sake of the families of MH370 pax, that some actual facts will emerge soon.

Wouldn't the oxygen masks be auto deployed ?

Or, could that be switched off ?

Assuming that had been the case, why would the hijackers want to have dead bodies instead of live ones for ransom ?

The pax would have been none the wiser, except the few looking at flight path on IFE (could that be turned off too?).

Yeah, whatever, do you still get those visits from the little green men?

Sorry if I sound heartless, but the families' worries are the least of my concerns...if someone in that "North West Passage" (from the Malay Peninsular onwards) wanted an aeroplane, and they now have one, what happens next?

Of course the sim might be a long way from the real deal of a 777............normal hobby for a pilot?

It might be a bit obvious, but given the new theory that the plane may have landed in the stans, has anyone thought about asking the pilot what he's up to?
