MH 777 missing - MH370 media statement

I woke up today with the feeling that it is never going to be found now and we are going to be left wondering. A piece of debris that may or may not be from the plane could wash up on a remote beach in a year's time and that may be it. I don't like to think that way - would love it if it turned up intact in some remote location with everyone safe and sound but the longer it goes on the less likely that is. Never knowing will be terrible for everyone, especially of course, those with family on the plane.

I hope I'm wrong.

I found this post helpful explaining the basics of primary vs secondary radar, transponder, datalink.... terms that JB & markis10 use frequently in this discussion.

Basic info to pro but good for neophytes like some of us, I guess.

A lot of aircraft parts are trackable, unlike many in your car. And a 777 hitting the water is very unlikely to sink without debris floating. It will get solved eventually, a bit like Amelia Earharts disappearance.

The tele in the UK are reporting that the captains family moved out of the home the day before the flight according to unconfirmed sources.

Are these claims credible or it is science fiction (something in which I have never been interested):

Missing Malaysia Airlines flight could have fallen victim to world's first 'cyber-hijack'

The vast majority of the community who have no technical expertise in such matters (like me) are left scratching our heads. So many theories...all unproven so it seems at this stage...

Sounds like she has watched too many Bond movies. Under what specific circumstances where the EU researchers able to get their 'exploit' to work I wonder.

But if it were taken seriously it could mean no more mobile phones, iPads or laptops allowed on aircraft.

Most significant fact from conference was the fact the ACARs was switched off before verbal contact from the pilot stopped.

Can you explain a little more are they not bursts via satellite ? I thought the pings where still being picked up 7 hours after wards

I am not sure what you mean, ACARS and satcom are two different things.

ACARS does use satellite communications to transmit data.....☑️

➕➖..... or does it have it's own satellite connectivity
i.e. separate from satcom.

You still haven't explained what you are after, ACARS does use a satcomm in some cases as do a host of other devices, ACARS also uses VHF and HF, hence the reference to two different things that operate independently of each other.

Now I am afraid to ask ......

If you switch off ACARS you obviously don't switch of the satellite link .....got it.

Unless the ACARS system has a separate satcom attached to it.

Well the while IT security thing has become a bit of an industry and one of the few huge growth areas for IT professionals. And given the visibility of some incidents in recent times Im not going to say this doesnt occur, one of the changes in our own Privacy Act relates to "interference" with information for good reason. But you do need to apply a slightly cynical eye over their claims which it might be suggested is to ramp up their own products/influence. If you listened to all of the suggested threats we wouldnt be using any of the many modern technological miracles, you do need to strike a balance between paranoia and the need to actually get things done.

Fleeting moment to enlightenment

Caught myself thinking about it yesterday, when a former QF FA (currently on maternity leave) asked me what I thought was the answer. I'm as confused as everybody. New direction in the past 24 hours about the PIC. Suicide - plausible given what he had been through that day of the flight.

I read and learn. Going to ask my neighbour (VA check-captain) his views when I see him - he came home last night from AKL. We've had some great chats about AF447, so this should be the same

What had he been through? I saw a vague reference to family moving out of home but didn't know if that meant wife took kids, they had all moved homes or wife was in on it.

I agree that it is 'plausible', but in Australia with 23 million inhabitants, the number who take that extreme step is about six a day. Six too many, of course, but thankfully low on a per capita basis.

A POLITICAL PROTEST?
The US intelligence community is leaning towards the theory that “those in the coughpit” were deliberately responsible for whatever happened to the plane, a US official told CNN.
According to British media reports, police are investigating the possibility that Captain Shah hijacked his own aircraft in a political protest.
The pilot was a political fanatic and “obsessive” supporter of Malaysia’s opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim, The Mail on Sunday reported.
Hours before Flight MH370 left Kuala Lumpur, the pilot is said to have attended a controversial trial in which Ibrahim — who has been harassed and jailed on successive charges of homosexuality and sodomy — was jailed for five years.
Police sources say Captain Shah was a political activist and fear that the court decision left him profoundly upset.
