MHupgrade - can now bid for upgrades before flight

Heard back from MH today about why I can't submit an MH Upgrade bid. Wish I had known about MH Upgrade before I booked my flights, oh well.

Dear BNEFlyer,

Thank you for your interest in our upgrade programme, MHupgrade.

With regards to the below, we have checked your booking and noticed that you are not holding MAS e-ticket number (it starts with 232....). Thus it is not eligible to submit offers for MHupgrade as per T&C.

We do have another upgrade programme that you are welcome to try known as Last Minute Upgrade, which is upgrade at the check-in counter on the day of departure. But it is subject to seats availability and different fares applies.

Thank you

Regards,
MHupgrade Team, Malaysia Airlines

I'll be trying Last Minute Upgrade at KUL if I have time (120 minutes between touchdown from DOH to takeoff to BNE).

Bugger :( Here's hoping you'll get lucky with a Last Minute Upgrade.

I have to say, MHUpgrade has made Malaysia Airlines a more appealing prospect for trips where I wasn't planning on stopping over in KL to visit family...

Any pics of the Porsche design amenity bags?

They're offering them only on the A380 flights at this stage. They're a hard case that opens into 2 halves. I prefer the TUMI bags.

A bit ho hum. Hard case that opens into two halves but there are pockets on each side to slip stuff into.

I'm not entirely sold on the hard case. Great that it doesn't get squished but also takes up a bit of space (which I often tend to not have a lot of) in my carry on.

Is it possible to upgrade on MH fights sold by Qantas?

If it was sold by Qantas as a codeshare with a Qantas flight number then no but I'm not sure if it was ticketed as an MH flight. Check your ticket number and if it starts with 232 (MAS ticket number) you're in luck.

Well, interestingly, J on my SYD-KUL leg was chockers - only one empty seat. Seems like a few upgrades on board, judging from peeps who needed help working out how to adjust the seats

Although the A330 are angled lie flats and a little uncomfortable, it was still a pleasant enough flight.

The poor old 737 on my KUL-SGN has certainly seen better days. I wouldn't say the upgrade is worth the money for the business class experience but more for the lounge access, extra space, better food and quick disembarking. There were only four of us in 16 seats so we each had a pair of seats to ourselves.

Hope I get to replicate the experience on the way home...

It's sold by Qantas but has a MH flight number. It's an intra-asia flight on MH.

Only a short hop too, so probably not worth it, but I would be interested if the upgrade earnt SC's at J rates.

Thanks for the info and pics.
Yes definitely prefer the Tumi over this one.

I don't seem to see the photo of the pack on my iPhone. Can someone please check?

I feel a sleep in the MEL -> KUL leg so didn't get anything but the KUL -> MEL leg got the black version. Ive got too many Clarins bag so will be giving the Porsche onces away. How many bags can one person collect.. just taking up space.

Does anyone happen to know/ have experience whether a Malaysia Airlines economy flight booked via Enrich flight redemption (i.e. Points + taxes) would qualify for the MHupgrade?

I know the flight if booked normally through their the website this flight would qualify but not sure if you pay for the flight with points whether it would qualify.

No, you need to have purchased a cash ticket.

BNE-KUL, bid $300, unsuccessful (not surprising - first night of school holidays, flight was 100% full)
KUL-HKT, bid $100, successful (approx. 50% load in J)
HKT-KUL, bid $70, successful (the only 2 pax in J, Y had no more than 20 pax)
KUL-BNE, bid $255, successful (counted 8 spare seats in J)

All in AUD, all flights for 2 pax. We initially considered QF/3K via SIN instead but the price difference was over $500 for the dates we travelled. We managed to fly J on 3/4 legs for less than all Y on QF/3K would've cost us.
