MHupgrade - can now bid for upgrades before flight

Again, the best guide is the booking category (maximum seats shown is 9 per category).
What matters most is the actual numbers in each business class booking category (e.g. J4 C4 D0 Z0 I
I just checked for my flight: J4 C4 D4.
So is this a good sign or is '9' the max/best? Sorry, I know this has been asked and explained before but I can't seem to find those posts (I'm on my mobile).

There's nothing "fishy" about it -- you have no entitlement to an upgrade, just a chance of being granted one. The airline decides whether it would like the tiny revenue from your bid or if it would prefer to leave the seat empty.

Thanks ,Im new to flying Malaysian Air a but expected them to start the bid with the minimum they would accept!

Many here have gotten away with minimum bid/ just above.

More likely that someone has cancelled/shifted flexible flights after the bids processed -- I don't think MHs system works up to the gate like QFs

I think MHupgrade is a very fair system. I also like how they may ask to increase your bid rather than saying unsuccessful.

Different strategies can be used but if the flight and/or J is full, there is next to no chance.

Yep, ist the satellite terminal lounge. Agree the regional lounge is much better in all ways, food, bathrooms, hot water etc.

FWIW I tweeted MH and they replied asking to confirm the lounge.. and then never got back to me. I haven't tried the regional lounge.. is that in the main terminal? But can't say I'm rushing to fly MH again on the basis of my last 2 trips with them.

But is this really the case? Aspro mentioned on the previous page that everyone seems to be getting this email to increase their bid.

Even if true, it is a good reminder to check your favorite online source of fare class availability.

Happy wandering

The regional lounge is in the main terminal. The other lounge is the one you take the aerotrain to. (Satellite terminal)

I've only been asked to increase my bid once, and this was due to high demand from fellow upgraders for a particular flight.

As with any type of bid, there is the possibility that another upgrader is willing to offer more.

But do you know this for a fact or did you just assume that because you didn't get the emails for your other flights? There's nothing in my email that would indicate I was outbid, it just says I would increase my chances by putting in a higher bid (which is common sense really).

This is fact as I was informed there was a high number of upgrade requests, and to revise my bid to increase my chances. To be fair, business class was full for this particular flight. Other flights have been only half full in J, and my original bids have been accepted.

Interesting, I got the email on increasing my chances with plenty of availability according to ExpertFyer. Anyway I upped my bid regardless with $20 each and just got the confirmation email 'You've been upgraded!'.

Let us know if there are spare seats when you fly! If so they have just squeezed out a extra $20 from you.I will stick with the minimum bid on the way to KL then may up the bid on the red eye flight home.

How long has it been open? Was there on Monday and not hot water in the showers.. same problem in June. The fact they don't have international power points baffles me too.

I dread anything more than a 2hr layover at KUL.

Hi, kindly note that the work for the hot water service will commence this week. Hope you understand on this. Thank you

From MAS twitter... I'm not sure what they've been doing since June...

KUL-MEL bid $300aud for 2 people and was successful. Minimum bid was $295
J cabin was about 80% full

As people have been talking about the satellite golden class lounge in KLIA I thought I would give my feedback when i visited it last night 20/10..
Toilet cubical is still out of order in the Mens toilet
They have plenty of normal tissue boxes around the sinks in the toilets but these are no good for drying your hands as they just break - proper hand towels would be good
The bar had NO BEER!!! The girl behind the counter said they had run out and they also has a sign on the bar top advising of no beer.. this is very poor
Also the girl at the bar was too absorbed on her phone the whole time - I stood there for at least 10 seconds before she looked up and noticed I was there

Whoever is running that place really needs to get their act together

Service and food on the flight was top notch!

The bar had no beer on 25th Sep as well. Looks like the no beer, no hot water problems continue...

It is not worth bothering with the lounge in the satellite terminal. Even if arriving and departing from satellite terminal, it is probably worth investing 15 mins to transfer back and forth to the regional lounge. On second thoughts, no, don't, leave the regional lounge to those in the know :-)

How much better is it? Have only been to the satellite lounge and as I wrote, quite dissapointed.

IMO it's not much better. Maybe the showers are. It's quite a bit smaller.

Note that OWEs can access the first class section of the satellite and that's better than both the business lounges (main and satellite), with table dining (the menu is rather limited but there is a buffet also), waiter service, a much quieter atmosphere and (I believe but have not checked them out) much better bathrooms.

Will try it out next time I think. I'm not OWE but fly MH J often enough.

Your comment about quieter atmosphere reminds me of my last visit, 2 kids (Australian) running around the whole satellite lounge playing tiggy and yelling at the top of their voice... for 20minutes. Parents didn't care or say anything and it wasn't until another lounge guest told the kids what he really thought that the parents paid any attention.
