MHupgrade - can now bid for upgrades before flight

IMO it's not much better. Maybe the showers are. It's quite a bit smaller.

I would rather spend 2 hours in the regional lounge than the disjointed main lounge. The regional lounge is quite a bit smaller piece - which is IMO one of the reasons it is better (big does not always mean better!). More intimate feel. Also the bar is an integral part of the lounge, not and add on at the front (as per satellite lounge). Some nice sofas with views overlooking the tarmac, warm showers and all in all a quite reasonable lounge experience.

(note I'm not talking for passengers who are not OWE, if OWE first lounge is better).

I suppose... but I quite like the bar in the satellite. I mean, it's an actual bar! I've had ten or so visits to both the main and the satellite lounges but being OWE, I usually go into the the first class lounge in the satellite when dining and to the bar when drinking so I haven't much been into the satellite J lounge.

Two more visits coming up over the next days.

The bar looks OK, but its not a bar if it has no beer and two wines choices, "red or white"

There's no beer in any of MH's lounges in KUL at the moment. The barkeeps don't know why not...

But there is red wine, white wine, champagne, half a dozen spirit choices, mixers, bar snacks and a friendly attitude. And you can bring food from the lounge into the bar area.

Let us know if there are spare seats when you fly! If so they have just squeezed out a extra $20 from you.I will stick with the minimum bid on the way to KL then may up the bid on the red eye flight home.
My folks told me there were no spare seats, cabin was full - in fact, they couldn't even get 2 seats next to each other!

KUL - MEL Saturday 24th PM flight.
Minimum bid 290AUD, my bid 300AUD
FAILED.

Didn't get any email prior to increase my bid. Probably being the weekend the demand was higher than a weekday. Y cabin looked like it was at 100% capacity

Your flight from ADL will arrive at the satellite terminal building.
Don't be confused - the satellite terminal building is technically part of the "Main Terminal" complex - but it is connected by a driverless train to the other building in the Main terminal complex which is commonly referred to as "the main terminal". The satellite is exclusively international - main is mixed international/domestic.
The flights for Bangkok usually leave from the main terminal building but occasionally leave from the satellite building.
Just check the gate number - satellite gates are always C, the international gates in the main terminal are G or H (A or B are domestic gates).
If your flight is leaving from a C gate, use the Golden Lounge in the satellite terminal. It is above the tracks of the driverless train where they enter the satellite terminal.
Look for the sign for the noodle bar upstairs - the escalators are a bit hidden.
The First Lounge is the nicest - if you are OWE. Otherwise the J lounge is okay.
If your Bangkok flight is leaving from a G or H gate, catch the 3 minute train ride to the main terminal and use the regional lounge.
It is upstairs slightly towards the H & B gates side, the escalator is next to a currency exchange booth.
If you are OWE and want a meal in the lounge, then I would eat in the F lounge in the satellite terminal regardless.
But otherwise choose the lounge closest to your gate.

This is not a given. I've landed from MEL in the main part of the terminal, and have also seen other widebody flights from Australia leave and depart from that part of the terminal. In fact on MEL flights my rate is 50:50 on main versus satellite.

My preference is always the regional lounge in main part of the terminal. The satellite lounge is a bit large for my liking. Of course if OW Emerald, First Class Lounge is the best.

Whatever.

Great post

Was just trying to be helpful. MH flights can end up randomly wherever the end up at KUL. Just wanted to point out there is no certainty.

I am sure though OP will work it out, so perhaps you are right. Whatever.

Two successful upgrade for MH149 KUL to MEL
Both times 2 passengers
Both times bid 310AUD (min was 280AUD)
11/12/15
19/12/15

Flying 5xinternal MH flights over the next couple of weeks. Initially put some bids in at the middle of the red zone. Got an email saying they are reviewing bids and would you like to increase your bid for a better chance....and of course I do. Modified the bids into the bottom of the orange zone....about $100 upgrade cost per pax for a 2:15hr flight. $175 total including original fare cost. Hoping to be successful.

Love it! Like the shady real estate agent that wants you to increase your offer to give it a better chance of being accepted ;-)

Was accepted, so flying Business class KL - Miri. ~$A135 total costs - 140RM for original economy plus 260RM upgrade. Will report back if it was worth it...flying A320.

i won upgrades from REP to KUL then on to MEL. Minimum bid on REP to KUL leg (only ones in J anyway) and then 50 over minimum on KUL MEL leg. My guess is price will go up once new J launches.

What's the usual time people usually get the email to advise if they were successful or not?
From memory I've had the email around about when check-in opens. 48 hours before..

I've currently got a bid for a flight which is now about 36hrs away from take off and haven't had any emails.. Also when I try check in it says is currently unavailable... My credit card looks like the available credit has decreased by the amount I've bid...

I'll give it till 24 hours before departure before contacting them

Flying Penang to KLIA on Wednesday this week (15 June) with wife. Originally booked tickets back in April and base fare was only 65 MYR each with taxes. Was going to use Enrich points but at that price why waste points! Received email about bid for upgrade and did bid the minimum of 160 MYR each. Last Thursday received further email about increasing the bid and as wife had done a lot of shopping in Singapore and Georgetown thought we needed 40kg of luggage each to be on the safe side. Already had Enrich redemption in J for KLIA to Sydney.

Increased the bid to 200 MYR each (plus taxes of 12 MYR each) and on Sunday night received email to say bid successful. For approx AUD$95 each (which includes the cost of original ticket) we now have J tickets Penang to KLIA so happy with the process of bid for upgrade.
