AFF'ers,

Is it relatively easy to get BNE to Goldcoast? Airtrain? I'm flying MEL-BNE mid morning and was due to fly home early afternoon. However could probably push flight back (VA J award - have to check that) and maybe squeeze in a couple of drinks before going back to BNE. I feel I've gained so much from this site I must at least make an attendancde at one of the events! :)

Easy? Fairly.
Time consuming? Definitely.

Airtrain DOM-Nerang (closest station to Surfers) is about 1.5 hours (each way).
Nerang to Surfers is about 0.5 hours each way.

Airtrain on Saturdays (I think) runs hourly. Bus and train connections are not always seamless.

If I were you, I'd plan another event to catch up or change your flights to next day and stay over at the Hilton!

Im looking now at doing a SYD/BNE Flounge run on Thursday, staying the night at Rydges (freeby) in BNE then meandering down the coast on Friday for 2 nights at HSP. I think this is a fine idea and believe that it's a good warm up opportunity for the weekend ;)

This is slightly OT, but after living in the same building as one of Luke Mangan's restaurants for over a year, I finally ate there last night.

So at Salt Grill SIN - the view is great (I had a good table), service was pretty good, especially seeing I was a solo diner. The food was impressive. I ordered a hotch-potch of things off the card (including some on our menu), and every dish was good. I really rate the food. Looking forward to the Surfers Paradise version. Unfortunately the wine was pretty average in Singapore.

You expect to get eye-gouged in any Singapore restaurant for wine, but I had 4 different average-ish AU/NZ wine by the glass for the bargain price of S$20+ a glass. The Cheapie Champagne (yes real Champagne), was actually okay, but then the AU/NZ stuff was a little disappointing. They could have picked up some better AU/NZ wines at the same price point really. Although the list is about to change apparently. Their coffee machine broke down, and they ran out of not 1, but 2 of their dessert wines, which I thought was a bit lame. But the staff were fantastic and comped me 2 glasses of wine as a goodwill gesture.

MutinalP, perhaps you should advise them to ensure the wine cellar is stocked up Surfer's?

From a price point of view $95 for food is reasonably good value, especially compared to what I paid last night. Looking forward to it :-)

Mr Mangan himself cooking up a storm for us?

Im actually fingers crossed that Mr Mangan will be in attendance - cooking for us, can't say, he's not too shabby behind the wheel of a kitchen though just quietly...

Ok, I'll tell you all the good news.

Today I was contacted by... oh no! my keyboards run out of ink...

I'm actually a very good cook and have mastered a number of Luke Mangans dishes, I would give my left you know what for a private class with him for a night, even if it was cooking for you and the rest of this rowdy crowd of AFFers :-)

I'll have my hospital bed pre-booked  ;)

The deals you do with the devil, munitalP.

Would be interesting to have some "blind tastings" (ala Masterchef) to see if we could tell which meal was cooked by you. If you were cooking with Luke and we didn't like the dish and sent it back....:o
