munitalP, just checked out the list in post #1. My +1 (Mrs LW) will be staying with me and attending the dinner. I'm momentarily Silver but in the midst of a upgrade to Gold courtesy of my VA Gold.

Just received a letter from Macquarie Hilton, think I did a survey from an email and have scored a bottle of wine or a buffet breakfast. Maybe I should throw it in to the prizes pool.

Naw 11 and 15 do manage without destrying a Hilton room, however if anyone does need a babysitter, my eldest daughter (18) has babysitter qualifications and does so at very reasonable rates (and the kids actually like her). I've got a two b/room residence booked and if Hilton happen to upgrade us to a 3 b/room, she'll probably stay anyway!

I saw a couple of potential gifts today which triggered my memory. It hasn't been mentioned for a while.

Hi Guys and Gals - an update.

1. I am still in negotiations with the Hilton for some last minute deals / upgrades or whatever they can provide, fingers crossed they are as forthcoming as HSW were last December.

2. If anyone is interested in a private car pick up from OOL or BNE to the Hilton, please PM me ASAP as I am working on a deal based on numbers.

3. If anyone has contact details for any luggage suppliers, (not a store!), please PM me as I am looking for more sponsors

4. Salt Grill will finalise the menu soon which I will post with cost.

On that note, to save on any potentially embarrassing moments, how would everyone feel about a prepayment system for the food component of the meals? This way there will be no problems on the night sorting out bills etc (except for booze) and the restaurant wont need to process multiple cards and cash transactions.

A paypal system or perhaps direct to the restaurant will be the preferred - Paypay being my choice as refunds due to whatever reason are easily processed and fast.

Please feel free to offer constructive arguments for / against this.

At hotel functions like this I have normally just booked up my share of the bill (coarsely rounded up by $5/$10) to my room.

It's simple and easy (and that way I earn more HHonors points).

The only flaw in this plan would be if Hilton Macquarie people want to charge it to their room to get the discount. In which case, I would forgo CC points for a 20% cash discount. Of course it would be good if Salt/HSP came to the party and gave us all a good/"discounted" rate

It was certainly my plan to take advantage of the discount (which would require either paying on the card on the night, or to the room). If we have tables of 10, just need to make sure there is someone with a card on each table

I was going to charge to room. Approx. 2000 base points and further 1000 status bonus points + grog seems justified somehow although I'd have no issues with a precharge to the room on the day.

BTW, in the table in the early post, there should be a 'D' in my 'status' column (if that makes any difference to anything).

I'm ok with the Mac cards being used, however I will ask straight away for someone with one of them cards to come forward and use it as the holding deposit instead of my Amex.

I refuse to be out of pocket on this event as has happened to me previously, BR just a couple of weeks ago and others in the past for shortcomings at the end of the night.

Absolutely agree mutinalP... After all your hard work organising I don't think anyone wants you to be personally out of pocket.


Thinking out loud... Would Salt/HSP allow us to [pre]-pay for the meal component upon arrival (e.g. before first course of dinner). That way we would not run a tab for the table - drinks could be purchased (or charged to rooms) by members on their own "credit" at the table.

Would that work? ... or too much mucking around?
