Anyone else get this from MyUS overnight?

Hi,

Black Friday weekend is almost here, and we don't want you to miss the outstanding offers available from U.S. retailers starting this Friday, November 29th.

As an American Express cardmember, you can enjoy an exclusive holiday offer of 50% off international shipping costs from November 29 through December 13. Simply use your American Express Card at your favorite U.S. stores, ship to your U.S. address, and you'll have this offer automatically applied to your MyUS account.

What is Black Friday?
On the fourth Thursday of November, Americans celebrate the Thanksgiving Day holiday. The following Friday, we take to the streets to start holiday shopping. As a kickoff to the holiday shopping season, many U.S. retailers offer their largest and deepest discounts of the year. You can see a huge list of these deals at TheBlackFriday.com, but here are a few to get you started:

Yes, got the same offer. As I was having some hassles this morning from customs about a package that has just been sent from myUSA I wasn't inclined to pay too much attention to it. However have just been advised that the package has cleared, so I might reconsider now.

I did yes. Black Friday sales are always good and I'll be looking to stock up... however I won't using my American Express card due to fees, but I will be shipping to my MyUS account. I'm sure that wont make a difference to the 50% off promotion.

Same here. And I won't be using the Amex card for purchases either.

You have to use the AMEX to get the MYUS promotional shipping rates, but you can use any card to buy the goods. The 30% discount only applies when amex is used, I doubt it will be different for the promotion. Of course there may be times when you get the discount accidentally on another card, but it is their policy.

No chance they'll look at the invoice/packing slip to see what the method of payment was? I agree my Bankwest platinum is preferable if possible.

I'd doubt it, however they do need to know the cost of the goods so wondering if that is visible without showing form of payment. I would have thought so.

For clarity, i mena you must pay for the MYUS fees/shipping costs to get the discount. They don't know (most of the time) nor care what card you use to pay for the US products.

I just wanted to tell people about my recent experience with MyUS. I bought 2 computers (much cheaper in the USA) to be sent to Cairns. It took more than a month to be delivered and was held up in Customs in Australia for 5 days before I asked questions and ended up paying the duty directly to DHL (over $400). MyUS would have been the one's notified of the holdup but I had no evidence that they did anything at all.

Overall it was still much cheaper than buying from Australia, just be aware that MyUS are slack and you might have to pay import duties!

I'd be interested to know *how* much cheaper computers are? I've been looking for a new work laptop...

Try this for a comparison: Look at the Dell Alienware site in the USA and then compare it to the same computer on the Australian one. Pretty eye opening. The computer the young fella wanted was 18" top of the line laptop. Sold for ~ AUD $3700 but we bought it for US$2300. Add in the Customs ($410), Shipping ($280) and Frustration and we're still way ahead. I also bought another cheaper laptop for the even younger fella from Amazon for US$500 and an equivalent Aussie price was $1000 or so. All sent in the same order BTW.

Surely you were aware of import duties in advance of shopping? Only items below $1k including shopping are gst free.

I had items held up by customs but I'm not sure your problem is The fault of MyUS. I was notified by FedEx straight away with a phone call and then MyUS also let me know.

I've done quite a few shipments from MyUS and all have gone off without a hitch and they have been very prompt in delivery and responding to queries.

MyUs have done everything in their power to process your purchase and they warn of possible duties and everyone knows it's a limit of $1000 so I don't consider this their issue. Contact with DHL would have resolved it earlier. Their tracking is excellent.

Have posted In several places sorry if a repeat, any ideas anyone on how to by pass best buy restrictions? I buy a computer on the website and have it forwarded to my shipito, myus address, then it cancels.

Quite a few of the websites in the USA now have a database of forwarders addresses and when they know its going there they cancel the order, my other 1/2's cosmetics are cancelled now all the time, in the past they made it ok..

Yeah thanks will look them up. So they are cheaper? I have written to BB they responded with a very nice sorry email.

"Thank you for contacting Best Buy.

I am sorry to hear your order was canceled. I apologize for the inconvenience.

After going through your order, I found out that it was canceled but our Credit Risk department. It particularly did not pass our verification process. However, please know that I had escalated your concern to the right department to review your order. Meanwhile, you can purchase the item to any of our local stores.

We appreciate your loyalty as My Best Buy member."

My chances are still very low. I did point out that I have proof of previous purchases at BB.

Any other opinions? Advice?

This was the reply from BestBuy so I am back to square one it looks like it anyway. I will probably have to use a personal shopper but this is not easy.

Dear MARKi

Thank you for your order. We apologize for any inconvenience the cancellation may have caused. Best Buy does not ship to known freight forwarders, and orders to such will be cancelled. Please submit your order using a residential shipping address. Please visit us at BestBuy.com or call 1-888-BestBuy to replace the order.

Please do not reply to this e-mail. This e-mail alias is not monitored for replies.

Estimado Cliente-

Atentamente-

Departamento de Verificaciones

Has anyone else noticed new restrictions? That is, all items imported to Australia must have a known seller name and address, and that for FedEx and DHL they will only accept merchandise from a single seller for each shipment. MyUS have added a 'trusted courier' that will allow merchandise from multiple sellers, but who knows what that uses. Probably USPS.
