The people on the online chat on myus are pretty helpful most of the time.

Just a question re payment to US stores....

I attempted to make an online purchase today at a US department store (using limited time promotions codes for a total of 30% off the goods) and entered all postage details of the MyUS address I received when signing up to MyUS, but after confirming payment I received an error asking to enter another payment type. I had used my MasterCard (with no international transaction fees). I didn't bother attempting to use my American Express card as another payment type as it would appear my cards not being US issued is the problem.
Other than using the personal shopper service offered by MyUS, are there any other options available or is it just a case of needing a US issued credit card.

You purhcase from Amazon, Fresh Pair or whoever and ship to your "MyUS" address.

I have only used Australian CC's to pay for the products (including Australian Amex). Only use the Amex to ship from MyUS.

Sometimes it is the card's registered address not corresponding to the delivery address, especially when the country is different. 28 degrees allow you to add another address, so this might help.

At what stage of the sign up process to myus.com does it show the discounts applied? I'm on Step 4, using my Velocity AMEX, and it still shows $80 as total due.

I joined up for myUS too, as it was free using my plat Amex card.

However, I don't see how they could provide a better service than you would get just using say Amazon (which my wife does all the time). But I can see that they could provide a more expensive service (is this what people want?).

I also do buy quite a bit of stuff, eg computer hardware/software, from the US, and I've never had a problem using my Aus issued credit cards or any shipping problems.

So from my point of view, is it a solution looking for a problem?

Nope. You just aren't buying the same things as everyone else. Many products have shipping exclusions on amazon, and other sites may not ship here at all. Burton goods, for example, are much cheaper in the USA but do not allow shipping to Au.

I only use them for purchases that can't be shipped directly to Australia and that require a US address. Obviously a lot of products from Amazon and other retailers can be shipped directly to Australia and in those cases I don't use this service. However in cases when products cannot be shipped to Australia and a US address is required, then this service is invaluable. To date I haven't had any problem purchasing with Aus CC and therefore haven't had a need to use their 'shopping' service.

Because Amazon won't ship some items to Australia and other Internationals. Like the new kindle for instance. Plus, I have Prime Amazon membership which gives me free 2 day shipping within the USA. So everything gets sent to myus.com box and then brought over in one hit. I have had a myus box for years but paid for it, and have now just transferred my box to take advantage of this great offer. I use 28degree card to purchase from overseas, then the Amex card from myus to get it shipped here very cheaply. My us shipping costs were pretty cheap anyway - now they are awesome!

Macy's is one site that doesnt allow shipping within the USA with an Oz credit card. When you click on their International shipping page (Macy's do ship to Australia) the prices almost double! But they don't ship everything to Australia anyway.

I just signed up and it appeared the fact it was free appeared on the 2nd step. Have placed my first order and had it shipped to my new Florida address, will report back when it arrives in AUS on the experience and costs of shipping.

I'm in the same boat. Part of my order has just arrived in Florida but I have it on hold until a few more items turn up. I went a bit overboard on my first go.

It's quite addictive. And like Christmas when the package arrives. Tracing it from Florida is interesting. Usually via Cincinnati then Hong Kong then Adelaide for me. Shipping Thursday morning Oz time usually gets it to me Monday.

The experience was great. I placed the order thursday night - it was delivered to Florida on Saturday, DHL picked it up and brought it to Sydney by Sunday night, was on my door step by 10am. Probably saved myself $150 on vitamins/supplements. Postage was $35AUD for 1.5kg.

:-)

Check out sports shoes and clothing too. Nice to see another shopaholic in the making. ;)

Are myus working Saturday now ?

Ordering a Red Oxx Air Boss bag - I could only use MyUS.com.

The list of things not shippable by Amazon is ridiculous - Toy Story 3 figures not shippable???

I think it's the Licence issue. If that is owned by a sole entity in Australia then only they can sell it to Australians. But we have ways and means now.

My sil is a quilter and so many prints aren't sold here or at inflated prices. Eg many Liberty prints, Disney prints plus her favourite, hungry caterpillar fabric by Eric Carle.

I signed up for this service and received my first package recently. It came via DHL and only took a few days from the US. Everything was good.

I used it to order Lego for my son from a US retailer because Lego have differential pricing (Australian RRPs are roughly double US RRPs despite the product being identical and coming from sources outside both) and forbid their US retailers from selling to a non-US address. Even with the extra shipping I save a handy amount and had the satisfaction of circumventing Lego's differential pricing scheme.

About to do the same thing with their new train set.

I'd decided to give my credit card a rest late last year but this damn thread has got me going again.
