me too, i signed up around 2 years ago on the Amex promo and they tried to charge me the USD $60 fee today! however as I had my card replaced before, the transaction failed and they have now emailed me chasing payment!!

Anyone else experienced this?

Bit of an update - flicked them an e-mail requesting the account to be closed and the fee refunded, they've offered the keep the account open while waiving the fee and add all the Amex promo's back on.

Happy to keep the account if it's free...if not then perhaps it might be cheaper to use those pay per use provider should I need parcels to be forwarded.

I signed up yesterday. The 2YO link is still active and still free. I had to hunt around to find a friend in the US a couple of weeks ago willing to hang around for a parcel to be delivered and then hassle off to the PO for me. (An accidental eBay purchase, discovering too late that they didn't ship to Oz).

So this should turn out to be handy for me.

What are the shipping prices like? Usually I don't need things FedEx fast and don't want to pay that sort of cost.

Thanks! This should save me a reasonable chunk of dough each year. Bargains off eBay and a lot cheaper postage than I get from Levenger. Woot!

I too was charged the fee after 2 years of no charge. On request, myUS.com closed my account and refunded the $60USD. Quick response. Might sign up again using a different AmEx as the service was handy.

No problems if they've flicked me an e-mail saying my time is up, pay for the service or close your account but just go ahead and charged my card is a little underhanded IMHO.

Hmm... just checked my account and all discounts are gone. Funny, 'coz I only just used it a few weeks ago, got the discount and everything.

Just noticed the charge too... hmm... have e-mailed asking for a response.

I joined earlier this year and after reading this thread I emailed them and asked about my membership and if there are any costs coming, it looks like 2 years is the 'special', here's the reply:

No, you do not have to pay annual fee for 2 years, as you are receiving a Visa discount.

Yep, my account was set to charge me $US60 on the 24th of July. I have just sent them a message to cancel my account, and not to charge me... and if they do, watch out!
(Card no longer exists, so they wouldn't be able to charge anyway).
Two annoying things... They have a free service, but costs $US10 to move to it. And I can't find a way to cancel online...

Has anyone contacted Amex and asked?

Luckily I had an old card on file that they tried to charge and I got an email from them and sms from amex that the charge was declined. I replied to their email and asked that the account be cancelled, and they replied to confirm it was.

Yes.. according to the amex page it is 2 years..

I spoke to someone on their chat page last night then received an email from a rep asking why i wanted to cancel. I pointed out that without the discount and the free membership they are just too expensive. So i am waiting to see if they will waive the account fees etc.

Got all of my discounts re-applied and been promised the $60 refund is on its way. Just checked the subscription period, the fee is due again next July.

Yes, there's no rational to that. Just put it in the diary for next year and try the same trick again.

Just checked my account under My Billing Cycle. It says next billing date is 27 August 2013 with a recurring cost of $60. So I don't think I'm getting another year free! I think it's actually two years for the whole of the promotion rather than two years from sign up date.

Thanks all for the heads up...Just checked my account; my 2 year period ends Jan 14 so i have made a note in my calender to cancel before then to avoid USD60 fee.

Ok got an email reply from myus. While it shows a 2013 date on the account the amex discount doesn't expire until 2014.
