Thanks for the quick review, and thats enough for me to go change my seat allocation.

*runs off and changes 14A to 5B*

Was in 5B on QF8 on Sunday, can report back that the "table" is very useful as it contains a large storage bin - a little like the storage bins on the window seats of 747 upper deck and A380. You also have guaranteed privacy and plenty of legroom as it's an exit row seat. You can lean across the storage bin and see out of the window so I don't see that as being a disadvantage. The only rival to row 5 would be the seats in what was the old first cabin. That area does seem to retain some of the old First ambience whereas row 5 is back in the main J cabin. I'll still be going with 5B in future though on 3 class 747 trips.

Row 2 & 3 on the re-config 747 are great

I feel for anyone stuck in row 1… 2 window seats, and ummmm, 2 middle seats (they are seriously that close to each other)

Re: New 3 class 747 layout - QF7/8/15/16/... and maybe now 107/108... and CPAP Power

Is Paddy "Jnr" old enough to sit in the exit row?

So 13A is not suitable for a CPAP machine but I take it you were moved to 12A?

Paddy Jnr is in fact 23

The new config does not have a row 13. Just 11, 12, 14, 15 & 16 upstairs.
So, yes, was moved to 12A.

Given the good reviews of rows 2 & 3, I'm likely to change our current seats (currently only J passengers with seats allocated)

Paddy

Thanks for that, tells me exactly what I wanted to know. Think I'll stick with 5B for now, and also try something in the front cabin in the future, same as you.

Thanks for the info. I'll try 5B out in August I think. :)

My November QF107 has chaged to a three class and my 16K was re-assigned to 14K.

I have now moved to 5B. 3E & 3F in Zone A are vacant, but the storage bin/solo seat aspect won out this time. I could have have selected 5J. Next time it will be 3E or 3F if available (for research purposes :p).

Serfty - Would you choose 3E&F for a couple or 3AB/JK?
I'm thinking you would be on display in the middle of the cabin. I currently have E&F selected but am in two minds (QF15).

Thanks

HI,
I have a JASA on QF107 in August.
Seat selection has now changed where rows 1-4 are available, and previously were not.
Can somebody please confirm the layout of this plane/flight?
Cheers!

For a couple? 3E/F every time - who needs a window - you can look at each other! :p

If row 4 is there for Business then you have First Class seats; 4A/K if solo, 3-4E/F if accompanied.

Cheers Serfty, was hoping this was the case.

Um - how about if accompanied by an 18mth old ('on lap')?

QF have provided a timing update:

By the end of June, Qantas will have six newly-fitted B747 aircraft operating on long haul Pacific routes including New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Santiago.
For First customers travelling between the US and Australia, the A380 First suite will continue to be available on QF11 and QF12 (Los Angeles/Sydney) and QF93 and QF94 (Los Angeles/Melbourne).
The remaining three newly-fitted B747 aircrafts will be introduced across the long haul Pacific routes and Brisbane - Singapore by the end of October 2012.

Sorry,I misunderstood - I thought you were referring to row 5.

Looking back I see you have a "Row 4" to choose from, so no problem. Note that 4A and 4K are bassinet positions with the old style first class seating.

The new 3 class layout does not come with a "row 4" and row 5 is an exit row.

QF107 1 Aug now changed to new 3 class layout....my 1st seat is goooone.

Now can choose from:
3 E/F/J
Anything in 6-8
or upper deck 15 A/J/K

Any recommendations for best of the above with infant?

With an 18mo infant, row 1 would be good.

I'd consider A/B or J/K to keep junior corralled.

3E/F seem to be great seats from reviews, but there may be too much freedom.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...
