Altitude points convert 2:1 to Krisflyer, and same deal with most (or all?) other FF programs they convert to. So in effect Black Amex earns 1.5 points per $ and Black MC earns 0.625 points per $.

Any news on this yet? FYI, the points from my Friday night spend were showing up before the start of business on Tuesday - i.e. 1-2 working days. So if you still haven't got points from transactions in April, I'd be phoning up if I was you.

Just checked. Yep, all good.

anyone paying the actual original fee? I've got some hefty tax bills coming up in a few weeks and need a replacement for citibank.

Maybe apply for the Alt.Black for the likes of your tax payments to receive effective 1.5p for flyerpoints, and apply at same time for Amex Plat Edge for supermarket shopping (a true 3 pts) and petrol (2 points). This is the method I use with my Alt Plat.(now Alt Black) used whenever I would otherwise only get one pt. The Plat Edge also has a free domestic flight each year.

Ok thanks. I use it too but the earn rate is poor
The earn rate with Alt Black is 1.25 or 0.625 effective. I try like crazy to only use Alt Amex (Alt Black) for any purchase not supermarket or fuel.

I have the same + WW EDR Qantas CC for non-Amex purchases.

Not sure where to ask this question, so I'll ask it here as I was upgraded to the Earth black combo - are there any cards that earn points on bpay payments?

Thanks. I'm contemplating whether to get rid off altitude and just go for the earth black and focus on QFF. But not sure.....

mine arrived in the mail today. didn't even have to ask for it

Guys humour me please - I'm kinda simple - the advantage of Altitude Black over SQ combo is that you can warehouse pts rather than direct sweep is that correct? Or am I missing something else?

Yes I think you are correct. I think the SQ card also has a lower annual fee of $250 vs $395 for the black.

Primarily yes - the biggest advantage with Altitude Black is no pts expiry and a choice of FF programmes to transfer to.

The Black MC also has a higher earn rate - 0.625 FF pts per $ in Aus or 1.5 pts per $ overseas, compared to 0.5 pts per $ with the SQ Visa. However, with either option you would presumably use Amex wherever possible, and the SQ and Black Amex both have the same earn rates.

Black also has some additional cardholder benefits that may or may not be of interest to you, albeit with a higher annual fee (mind you most people seem to have Black with a discounted fee $150 pa in my case).

EDIT: the SQ Visa also earns 1.5 pts per $ overseas, so the earn rate differential, is only within Aus (0.625 vs 0.5). And you can get double miles with the SQ cards when you buy SQ flights.

What are they? :)
