New Altitude Black has landed...

We already have a Earth Black card, I just thought of this because the double points thing.
On the Altitude site it has Qantas logo but nothing else so that is why I asked.
2 x pts on Earth also - read down the thread and it will clearly explain how you can (may) get 2 x pts with a bit of effort.

I have just been approved for the Altitude Black card.
Would it be a risk using this largely for ATO payments?
Do I need to have mixed "real" purchases and ATO payments to keep Westpac happy?

If your aim is to collect points++++++++++, not quite sure why you would not put all your other purchases through MC/Ax Blk card.... the more varied purchases hopefully brings less attention..
Aim should be to fly under the radar...
Let's all not kill the golden goose!

How's the international earn on this compared to citi select after FX charges etc?
2 x pts or 1 x pts? tdog IMVSHO (VS = very simple) Select at 5pts = 3.3 real pts slaughters all others - again IMCDHO (CD = continually drunkard) repeated conversions eats up way to much 'play time' - golden rule - if o/s Select here / Select there and you won't go wrong. Of course as always - YMMV.

It is very clearly indicated in the sales pitch on Westpac site. 3 points for Mastercard on international (1.5 real points).

  • 3 points - Altitude Black World MasterCard (Overseas Merchants)
  • 3 points - Altitude Black American Express Card (Australian Merchants and Overseas Merchants).
Here is the link with most of what you need to know - Altitude Black | Westpac

That's what I've always done too but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on something better. Thanks for the confirmation.

GD I am a bit confused by this post - are you saying what you posted elsewhere was plagiarised?

Apart from that - what is your concern? You don't want too many other people taking up the card and securing 2 x pts for 3 mths? This is EXACTLY what Westpac want - they want as many consumers as possible to take up the card - unlimited! Am I missing something in your post please?

What happened was that on whirlpool forum, I was having a discussion with some "less-illuminated souls" about how credit card reward points/frequent flyer points are actually worth a fair bit if used for the right purpose(ie. redeeming premium award flights, and not giftcards, etc), to the point where it may be worth paying a credit card surcharge fee just to generate the points, eg. paying ATO with credit card. I supplied some very basic scenarios and numbers but did not mention exactly which cards/promotions people could use to do this the most effectively, but invited people to PM me for more detailed information if they were interested. I didn't want to post the exact cards/promotions involved directly on the forum because based on my knowledge of the general population of that particular forum, I could just imagine that once ideas started churning in people's heads about how to make use of this information, one of the first things they would do would be to ring the banks, etc to confirm it was doable, thereby bringing more attention to something which is probably best done without raising too much awareness at the bank.

What Plant posted was pretty much the contents of the PM I had sent to him, hence why I said it sounded familiar because they were actually my words :P I didn't have an issue with it being posted here because I thought(hoped) the readers of this forum would be more circumspect in their actions(ie. WON'T ring up the bank bringing attention to this), especially since a lot of the original basis of the info was actually from yours, cove's and others posts in the ATO thread in this forum, just with some extra calculations I had made thrown in. I just thought it was funny that my PM was reposted here.

Although I have benefited from this forum greatly (thank you all) , I am always concerned about the consequences of disseminating such information widely...

Whirlpool, AFF demographics are different. Try explaining F/J travel via FF points on Ozbargain.

Have just applied & been approved today in time for the double points bonus & am just about to book a bucket list first / suites to London next year for myself & +1 so I figure in 3 months I'll be able to book the return. Best 395 I've spent on a card.

Just applied mine and approved. Pick up cards next week. Luckily 3 months bonus points will start on date of activation. Will be storing the card for 2 weeks before activating it

Looks like the double point offer has ended early for new signups. Only 0% for 12 months for the special at the moment, not even any signup bonus. I forgot to take a screenshot of the old double points offer, anybody save one perchance?

Double point offer was meant to end on 22 June so sounds like it's ended as planned.

Looks like a batch of bonus points have posted. It looks like they've taken all the points that was accrued from last month's reward statement and just given to me as a bonus in this current reward period. I wasn't expecting this to happen until the end of my 3 months bonus period as per what they said on their promotion

This brings me to a worry I'm currently having that I'm going to have to chase up some bonus points later due to the whole "double points for 3 months from date of card activation". I applied for the card mid April, and after some faffing about over a few weeks, got approved and I saw the credit card account appear in my online banking around mid May(noticed it on the 15th May). Obviously, it took a few days for the welcome pack to arrive with the cards, etc. and I didn't get the card until the 19th May. I called up to activate the card on the 20th May, and figured this is when my double points period would start. I called up the Altitude Black customer service line yesterday to inform them I would be overseas from tomorrow, and since I already had them on the phone, decided to ask to check when my card was activated so that I could be sure when my double points period would start from. She told me that my account was opened on the 14th of May and the 3 month period would start from then. When I explained that the promotion said that the 3 month period would start from card activation, she said that if thats the case, then they would probably start it from date of first purchase on the card, as they didn't have records on when the card was activated, or at least she couldn't see any record of it.

Based on how my first batch of double points has posted, and how they don't actually track card activation date, I have a feeling that if I have any transactions that I want double points for, but was recorded after my 3rd account statement but before the 3 month card activation period has expired, I'm going to have to chase it up....

What are everyone's thoughts on this card for MH earn in particular?

Excellent. Just warehouse the points in Altitude until needed. At that time it will only take a day or two to transfer to Enrich. Also good for Singapore Kris, Virgin Velocity, AirNZ, Cathay Asia Miles.
