New Amex statement credits

Does HN have anything reasonably priced?

I am in the market for a new Fridge, but I suspect good guys may be cheaper than HN and easier to deal with? thoughts?

I believe HN has a 50inch Panasonic HD TV for $595. Add a $5 item and split over two cards for a $400 TV. Ok not the latest but a good second or kids TV.

I bought an iPhone7 from HN. Used 4 cards for $400 off. Was the same price as everywhere else. Have bought fridges, whole entertainment suites, etc from them. They will always price match. They will also discount big sales more. Our local one quite often gives us free delivery for the bigger stuff as well.

Myer is also excellent with price matching and deliveries. MrsMoin is a Myer One Platinum because of it. Had no problem with the Myer promo. MrsMoin just price matched all the things that were cheaper at other stores.

As a data point. We loaded MrsMoin iphone with all our Amex's as Myer are happy to split payments across multiple cards and will do it on apple pay with no problems.

have done this with my parents and brothers sup cards on my phone. it's been difficult to get them to use the statement credits so i decided i will osmetimes take advantage of them. just bought 3 telstra recharges to use up the android pay.

great to have a card that provides me more in cash backs than the annual fee costs.

Harvey Norman... Well, what can I say - I am pleasantly surprised.

The retailer who "lost touch" for a while with inflexible pricing, and snotty service has improved remarkably.

The salesperson I dealt with today (later found out she was a manager) was no nonsense. She immediately beat prices from the good guys and online (e.g. gave me a further discount on all items purchased). We reached a deal I was happy with, arranged delivery on a day that is convenient to me, and absolutely no issue to split payment across multiple AmEx cards.

Not only did I get a great deal, but the kicker of AmEx credits across a fleet of cards is now a phenomenal deal.

Furthermore, one of the items I purchased is a Westinghouse fridge, which is subject to cashback by redemption.

I love this. Thumbs Up from me!

PS - I did see a little AmEx / VPay sign at the check out, but didn't pass comment.

...

My only regret is I could have got an extra $200~$300 off if I had even more AmEx cards!!!!

Had a similar experience with Harvey this weekend, very happy with them, went and bought a bunch of stuff for the house in the sales, put a deposit down with delivery in March sometime. Can pay this off bit by bit till March so called up and over the phone paid with my 2 remaining cards that hadn't used this deal.

Now fingers crossed there is another Amex deal before March so I can get a bit more back :)

Bought an item at HN last Friday which was then advertised on Monday for 20% less. Went back in today and they gladly refunded the difference. Good service.

HN have really lifted their game, not a single problem when splitting cards (other than a trainee wanting to confirm this is all kosher) and reasonable prices. Got a new TV delivered today, DOA'ed and trying to find me a replacement now despite they have none in stock. 17 cards all up :) A++ will buy again.

Bought Freedom gift card earlier today. No email from Amex which is unusual. Today was last day of offer.

I bought Freedom gift cards in store at Victoria Gardens split across 8 cards, got all 8 emails. Did you use yours in store? TnC says in store only.

In store. Then purchased $189 worth of goods using the gift card. Pending transaction shows Freedom Furniture Citygate.

I must have been unlucky with my HN purchase. No dramas splitting my camera 7 ways, but the sales person made me feel like I was buying a Camira in the 80s. Stuffed around with price before finally agreeing to "match" HNs own online price! Then pulled the hard sell for extended warranty to the point he said "I don't think I can sell this to you without product care".

I'd never rush into a HN if I could avoid it.

Received four new offers via email today on my Edge:

Harvey Norman: Spend 300, get 50
Woolworths: Spend 100, get 30
AAMI: Spend 400, get 120
Powershop: Spend 100, get 30

Tried registering my other cards however it says it's invitation only. Checked Amex website and the offers don't appear there - I have to manually register the card via the link in the email. No manual links on ozbargain either

I received the same 4 offers today on my Essentials card - I applied for and received the card a few weeks ago (I have a CBA Amex, but this is my first Amex-issued card). Found the same thing - the offers don't appear on my account on the Amex website and had to register manually via each link.

Nice.

This is the first time since having my cards that I have no offers on any of them. Quite sad actually.

Given the flurry of activity in November and December I agree pickings are looking slim at the moment but I am confidently expecting that come 1st Jan we will get more offers. They clearly seem to work for Amex (though not sure how/why) so expect to see more.

I also missed out on the second round of Hardly Normal offers, sniff. Nothing come in for me recently except for a couple of lousy spend $100 get 3,000pts offers. I don't get out of bed for less than 10,000!

For those who used the Freedom offer, did the store still have the AMEX surcharge? (IIRC when I last shopped there earlier this year, there was no charge for Visa/MC and a 1.9% fee or thereabouts for AMEX and Diners.)

Also, made use of the latest Hilton offer this week at HSW. No issue splitting payment across two cards at the front desk for $300 back on a $600 stay. Very happy - very likely would have booked elsewhere otherwise. :)
