New Amex statement credits

There has obviously been a big change in policy at Amex for 2017. Six weeks into 2017 and only one good offer (DM) and one reasonable offer (Amex travel) so far. Some weeks have had no offers at all.

I paid my annual fee for the Edge last week (as I can still get the free VA flight on that until March) but it looks like all other cards may need to be cancelled as the annual fees become due.

I'd give it more time myself. The second half of 2016 was the best I can remember. Having said that I mentally 'justify' all my 4 Amexes without statement credits. The Accelerator is in the balance at the moment

Looks like the vinomofo offer is targeted. A manual link is not available.

VM was on my Explorer.

Agree. Although I did have a 20% off offer from Dan Murphys in January, which I'd count as a 'good offer'.

Offerings for 2017 so far have been a lot less than I had expected. Since I've extracted my bonus points from the Explorer card I signed up for in Dec 2016, I'm thinking of cancelling it. Given AMEX don't enforce the 12 or 18 month exclusion period, I'll just sign up next time there is a good bonus point offering. If AMEX don't want to continue to provide the cash back offers like they did in 2016 I can play the card churning game with them.

I have both of these on all 6 cards.

.

???

Historically most promo offers come out in the last several months of the calendar year (ie as part of a Christmas shopping push).

Based on recent years the current level of activity is at anything higher than in previous years for this time of year.

Amex has always been a big user of promos. It used to be more points based (sigh as those were the "good ole-days"), but in the main is cash-back these days. However whatever the type of promo, they have never been contsnat in number throughout the year and have always varied.

Historically though the larger promos have always seemed to occur in the last quarter of the calendar year. Or at least that is my recollection of the last decade.

Cashbacks are generally funded by that merchant (with exceptions such as shop small etc), so things will typically fit into their marketing cycle. Give it a bit of time....

I got the Ayres Rock / Uluru deal on my cards.

Having been there for Oz Fest a few years ago, I am not rushing back.

Just a reminder - 10 days left on this offer:

DAN MURPHY'S ONLINE
Spend $50 or more, get $10 back
Save the offer to your Card and spend $50 or more, in one or more transactions, online only at www.danmurphys.com.au by 17/02/2017 to receive one $10 credit. Limited to the first 30000 Cards to save the offer. Exclusions apply.

I got the Vinomofo offer on my direct Amex. Took it up of course ;)

Trouble is that due to all the other wine offers I have more than I can drink for a long, long time and moreso as I already had excess bottles before the offers

This offer is only good for wine?

I didn't get the VM offer on any of my AMEXs, I have two no annual fee cards, the Discovery and the Essential cards.

I also didn't get it on my NAB Premium AMEX which I spend heavily on. I got the Ayers rock offer on all cards.

They obviously aren't using the big data they have on me properly. I spend a lot money on wine not geological vacations.

I didn't get it on any of mine - six in total - guess it was a reasonably limited offer.
