New Amex statement credits

New statement credits

Hotelclub know when the booking completes as they add the nights to your running tally so they can offer the free stay after 10 nights. There is no requirement to pay at the time of booking for this to register as they provide the option to pay now or at checkout. When Amex notice the hotelclub activity on your statement they should pay the statement credit as they normally do. I would think they would be unaware how many nights you may have stayed nor if you had one or two bookings, only that you have met the minimum $200 spend with the merchant. We have seen previously with the shop local promotion AFF members successfully splitting a dinner bill between cards.

I will let you know how I go after the stay.

If you pay at the hotel though, doesn't that go through the hotels merchant account? Or do you pay hotel club on checkout?

I understand Amex only know the total through as opposed to what you buy etc (I've been the proponent of this through most of this thread!), but they also only see the merchant.

If you pay now, I take it the merchant is hotel club, as opposed to paying later?

My booking is showing on Hotelclub so I gather they will track it through to the end of my stay.

Not worried about the tracking, it will be the merchant. Hotel club won't be reporting anything to Amex, we've seen that with all the other promotions. Interested to see how it goes for you, anyway. Is your checkout date within the expiry date of the promotion?

Re: Topshop/topman

Good one at the moment for people wanting to book hotels:
Hotelclub spend $200 get $40 back.

Shame the old 10 bonus point/$ offer isn't still going

Hotelclub does seem to be a partner on ebates and cashrewards which might provide an extra dip

also qwibble

get close to 15% all up with qwibble and the 5% club rewards. If there's a coupon then I book via the app and get 7% club rewards.

I like the fact they still give you club rewards even when using a discount coupon.

I get 12% back through my company reward scheme so that normally beats the extra 2% going through the app.

New statement credits

You two are way ahead of me then. I only managed about 4% via pricepal when I booked a Canberra hotel recently. Still $19 is better than nothing and combined with a potential 2 x $40 off when paying with amex is near as dammit $100 off an already heavily discounted room rate.

Yes. Same as any Amex credit, paid when the payment goes onto your account. I think you are confusing the Hotelclub booking with the Amex offer. Hotelclub don't care if you pay cash or CC as long as the booking has originated through their search engine.

But it is an Amex offer, not a Hotelclub offer. Anyway, like others have reiterated, I don't think it will work as you expect but good luck.

just got a nice one

Re: Topshop/topman

A colleague in the UK alerted me that after a very barren period for Amex credits, there has been a burst of activity over there with a whole series of usable credit offers. Here's hoping Amex here will follow suit. The UK offers are;

  • £10 off £50 spend at Shell
  • £10 off £65 spend at World Duty Free
  • £15 off £60 spend at Ocado
  • £5 off £20 spend at Boots
  • £10 off £50 spend at thetrainline.com
  • £10 off £50 spend at House of Fraser
  • £10 off £40 spend at Debenhams
  • £10 off £25 spend at Vue Cinemas
  • £5 off £10 spend at Caffe Nero
  • £10 off £100 spend at Heals
  • £20 off £100 spend at Thomas Pink
  • £50 off £250 spend at Moss Bros
  • £10 off £50 spend at Fat Face
  • £20 off £200 spend at Co-Op Electrical

Most of these are mainstream companies in the UK although there are some there I have never heard off.

There is a 15% off code for many hotels through Hotelclub until 3rd May -- bonus15 -- which can be used to stack with the Amex offer. As usual with many of these codes, you cannot get a discount on many of the larger chains' properties. However, I just successfully used it to reduce the cost of a Gold Coast apartment hotel. I attempted to stack with Cashrewards for a 6% rebate, but as Cashrewards / Hotelclub's T and C's exclude stacking of Cashrewards with a discount code, I am note sure whether I will get the extra few dollars. Anyway, I got immediate confirmation from Amex of the $40 back by email, so I am already reasonably happy.

Damn, I just missed your post about the discount code. Have just made two bookings with Hotel Club on two separate Amex cards so have scored $80 in credits and have stacked with 10% cash back through company rewards scheme. The extra 15% off would have been nice if it had worked on my hotels.

The rule has been updated on CashRewards to

Updated HotelClub terms as of 1 May 2015; rewards are now payable when used in conjunction with a coupon code.

Booked Hamilton Island hotel today. 15% discount code + Amex cashback + 6% cash rewards cashback + 5% back to hotelclub reward program :D Happy!
