New Amex statement credits

Thanks everyone. It seems everyone is also looking at pharmacies. :)
I've also found a few bottle shops which are no doubt overpriced but might make it slightly cheaper.
I've also found a few butchers as well.
Couldn't find any post offices
Multiple $20 GC's for local restaurants that are also in the entertainment book works well for me.

The small bottle shops can also good - a few in my area will split payments, last year there were some good single bottle Melbourne Cup Champagne specials at the Thirsty Camel via their club

Looks to be new on the Edge;

Alice McCALL
Save the offer to your eligible Card and spend $500 or more, in one or more transactions, online or in-store at Alice McCALL by 28/11/2017 to receive one $100 credit. Limited to the first 10,000 Cards to save the offer. Exclusions apply.

Thanks Dr Ralph for the link (post 4787).

4 cards duly registered, although I may struggle to use as in the locations in my two main shopping areas, there's obviously a lot of small businesses not taking Amex!

Anybody in ACT after some grog - the liquor legends in Curtin will split payments. Decent range - is exxy, but after 10 back makes it decent
got 3 bottles of Clonakilla SV 2016 for $170 after cashback .

So out of curiosity and since it s my first time
What's everyone using their small shop for. Admittedly I'm struggling to find too many merchants.

I'm thinking
- chemist's to buy $20 worth of meds
- casual restaurants where I can eat for $20 per person
My first stop will be my local bottleshop/bar. I'll pick some bottles and enjoy a free beer

Made a number of purchases under small shop this morning. No emails. Hope the system is working.

One year I was getting prescription medicine from some pharmacies. That didn't work quite well as many pharmacies are overpriced and reduce the saving from Shop Small.

I'd struggle to get 10 transactions. Luckily only 1 card.

Housekeeping....

  • Make sure the shop is listed in the shop small site otherwise no $10 credit. Some shops have not taken down their stickers although they no longer take part (odd I thought). Two shops I visited last year were in this category. AMEX rep visited them shortly thereafter and old shop small stickers came down and they are not taking part this year either.

Is there some cost to them for it despite what the AMEX adverts suggest? Other than the AMEX transaction %?

  • The more you zoom in the better - in fact automatically go to the max zoom as often many shops only show up then. Even so NOT ALL SHOPS appear. In talking with Amex tech people after getting very frustrated - their explanation - "We want you to discover new shops not just the ones you already know (use?)"
  • Some restaurants are on to us - and put up a sign stating no splitting of bills. Even worse they enforced it! Having an argument with your better half was not tried though. The signs disappear the day after the Shop Small promotion finishes.

One AFFer (who's blood should be bottled - Irish saying) put an excel file up once with the complete list over EVERY merchant participating. It was accurate and had roughly 50% more than the maps every showed. If we all ask nicely.....

ISTR, this list came from OzB, but I my memory might be faulty.

You may be referring to this information which comes from OzBargain:

I seem to miss getting the emails when I use payWave but get the emails almost instantly when entering a pin

I thought it might have to do with whether you signed up for the offer via the manual link or via the offers section in your AMEX login.

I can't say explicitly for this promotion however, in the past, there has been no discernible pattern for email receipt whether from manual enrolment or via offers in Amex online.

You're not asking to split the bill. You're asking to split the payment. Go on social media, Oz Bargain, here, Whirlpool and name and shame.

Could be the EFT terminal itself, some of the older units process them offline/in batch after hours won't trigger the emails but the credit will turn up slightly later than the online machines.

Once I had to chase down a credit past the end of the promo period when the map website was inactive. They claimed the store wasn't participating and would have gotten away with it except I had a screenshot.

Always take screenshots for any credits you suspect you may have to pursue.

I recall All Amex Shop Small Locations (Sortable Data) - OzBargain from last year.

in the past, there has been no discernible pattern for email receipt whether from manual enrolment or via offers in Amex online.

Also different cards used in the same shop at the same terminal can have varied email outcomes. It seems quite random.
