New Amex statement credits

For those still sitting on their Harris Scarfe credit, I swung past the Southern Cross outlet today to get an EFTPOS gift card.

However I didn't know they also sell other types, just like the supermarkets - so you can get $60 of itunes credit for $40 (best percentage, can also do EBGames and a couple of others like that), but personally I picked up a $100 VA gift card. I will no doubt use it in the next few months, the $20 extra off is welcome.

Though the cashier was new and tried to charge me a $5.95 fee! Shut that down pretty quick :D

Hi! What do you mean you ‘shut that down pretty quick’? Are you saying that the cashier did not charge you the fee in the end?
store based vouchers (i.e. VA, EB Games, JBHiFi etc don't attract a purchase fee. Eftpos/visa etc cards do.

For those in Sydney, there are 3 Newslink stores that can top-up Opal for the Travel Essentials offer at Central Station. The 4th Newslink doesn't have an Opal terminal. I made a trip to Central mid-morning and did 24 Opal top-ups across my 8 Amex cards. There is no Amex surcharge at Newslink. I chose not to top up Opal in the SS event this year as could easily obtain my 40 credits elsewhere so this Travel Essentials offer is a huge bonus.

Thanks. Which one exactly does not do Opal topups? Did they allow split payments?

The one without Opal is beyond the ticket barrier downstairs at the Northern (city) end.

I did multiple $20 top-ups. Depending upon how busy they were and how tolerant the server was, sometimes I could only do one. At other times I did 4 or 5 before they served the next person.

You are very lucky today. I went last week to top up opal, the lady only allowed me to top up twice, then she said "no more top up" .
Interesting experience today (quiet Sun pm)...I think I now know Central station inside out! I found 4 Newslink stores in total at Central. The one at the entrance at Devonshire street said he only took cash for Opal top ups, another one inside the barrier did not do Opal tops ups, another one near the country platform would only do 2 top ups on ONE card, and the one in the Grand Concourse would only do 3 transactions on ONE card very unwillingly. I got dirty looks, and downright rudeness and agro from some of the staff today...I personally won't be rushing to do it again!

Yep installed the wrong app...
Are people filling up 20 - pay 10, then repeat ?
Or can you fill up 60 and pay 3 lots of $20?
cheers

Yep filling up in lots of $20, changing cards each time.

The app took about 5mins to find me at the Phillip BP. Other than that all went smoothly. Doesn't take long to get to $20 at a buck and a half per litre though.

Mine didn't arrive until two days after completing the spend. I'm currently waiting for emails for the Velocity partners $500/5k points and apple pay credits too. There's something reassuring when the email arrives instantly and slightly unnerving when it doesn't.

The one BP near me in Vic in on corner of Highbury and Blackburn Roads that is meant to have it just refuses to work. It sees the service station, but the the select pump button remains greyed out and cannot be selected.

The one at the corner of Huntingdale and Waverley works, as does the one at the corner of Clayton road and Ferntree Gully road.

I have had this issue too and it appeared that while the app listed the service station as having the feature, for some reason it thought it was located several hundred metres down the road (despite having the correct address listed). I discovered this because when I was at a set of lights down the road I was able to choose which pump I was at however when I arrived at the actual station I was not.

So suspect there are a few issues to be ironed out. The one station I was able to use the app at worked smoothly though.

I have filled up 3 times (well $20 each time) in different BP's but boy the app is very slow, luckily have OH with me, he pumps while I am checking the app in the car ..2 more left I would not bother to do this again unless there was an incentive

The BP offers have been great, I've used more than a dozen cards already but the same can't be said about the 7-Eleven offer though. Out of the two servos down in Canberra, I'm sure either one or both of their fuel supplies are contaminated. My car was playing up all afternoon until I've filled up at my usual BP back home.

Harris Scarfe have been fantastic along with Best&Less, except I wasn't fortunate enough to encounter newbs who have no idea about the $5.95 fee. Can't whinge, after all, it's free cashola.
