New Amex statement credits

I'd just caution buying gift cards unless you intend to use them quickly.

There have been a large number of chains just like Grill'd that have recently gone bust.

Agree. The number of times you received/intend to use the offer is also a consideration as well as your risk appetite (pardon the pun).

I’ve received the offer on two cards. The small risk of losing $40 is preferable to me than stuffing myself with a heap of food and turning the meal into an unenjoyable experience. If I got the offer on 20 different cards then obviously buying $500 worth of gift cards is a totally different proposition.

Quick questions for those who have set up extra supp cards for statements credits. I know it's possible to set up one supp card in your own name,

• Does that card have the same expiry as the parent card or its own expiry date?
• Can you add that card to your online portal or does it have to have its own username and password? (like a supp for a different person would have)

Just checking with the brains trust - have you noticed that the "Shop Small" offer has disappeared off your "Saved to Card" list? I've definitely saved it (and my statement shows a couple of $10 credits for other places already), but it doesn't seem to be in my list any more. I was just checking because I spent $20+ at a Shop Small outlet a couple of nights ago, and got no email, and no credit (yet). I've only used the Shop Small offer 2-3 times on this card, so it's not that I've maxed out the offer.

Not uncommon for a multiple-spend Amex offer to disappear from sight when partially redeemed. Will still work though

Can add card to your account or have a separate registration. I've seen benefits for keeping it separate.

Same expiry for me for supps. But that could be because I took them out very soon after the original one.

many of the vendors I have used to shop small last year and years gone by are no longer on the shop small map, I have tried 1 that was last year, still accepts Amex, but no credit has been forthcoming after 2 weeks. I only managed to registered 3 cards, and have not been able to use the 15 credits. Amex is no longer a card I would recommend in my area. Ok for supermarket and fuel spend but that’s about it. The shop small vendors in my area have dropped to nominally a third of last year.

(Yes, I could have used all of the credits if I purchased things I would not have normAly.)

I received an email this morning to spend $300 on QANTAS with my AMEX and get 5000 bonus points (limited to first 15,000 cards). Logged into the app at 11:45am and can't find it. Did 15,000 people get in before me?

I received the same email and it definitely wasn't there for me on the website the night before, or immediately after receiving the email. For really popular offers, I'm sure I've seen the allocation used up before the emails even went out.

In this case, though, I'm guessing it's a glitch where Amex haven't properly set the offer up or the email went out way too early. If anyone had seen the offer on the website, surely it would have been talked about excitedly here and on Ozbargain before it disappeared.

I'm logging in daily now to keep any eye out for it...

Absolutely I agree. I went out Wednesday to buy a bunch of stuff I needed with the thought I would finally use some of my 10 chances. Not a single one accepted amex! Even the chemist I tried (Terry White) is listed on the map, but I went to a different branch and they wouldn't take it.

There were 2 times I used it, thinking they were small, non chain places - no credit.

So, a big fat zero credits for me. Cancelling the Explorer Monday. Will decide about the Edge later.

I received the email and couldn’t save it. A family member also received it and could save the offer. This is reminding me of the Shop small fiasco where emails were received and the offer could not be saved to some accounts.
