New Amex statement credits

The recent Red Rooster offer which I claimed, the $10 has failed to hit my account.
Called Amex, quick answered & friendly lady, said cos it's an odd listing on statement it may be held up, but I can be assured it'll appear & if not within next month, call in & they manually credit it.

Hype 100 / 15
Dr Martens 150 / 20
Pablo & Rusty's 27 / 10 x 3

Amex must have an absolute gun salesperson in charge of partnerships with the shoe industry. Can we petition to get them on to something travel / supermarket related.

Or possibly it may point to the massive mark-up in the shoe industry.

In the mid 2000s an analyst's report reported mark-ups (over fully loaded cost of production) for most 'brand name' sports shoes ranged from 800% to 1,500%, or to put it in another way - For every $100 you pay to buy a pair then around $6 to $11 is what the shoe cost to produce (includes corporate overheads etc not just materials & labour).

That pales into insignificance when compared to the mark-up for 'brand name' frames for glasses (optical) and sunglasses (complete). In the early 1990s - one very well known brand's figure (for their top selling sunglass model) was $2.28 per $100 sale price paid.

I recall chat on these forums about producing backpacks in China for $6 and flogging them here for $70+. Airlines do it regularly too in response to demand. But when a pharmacist does it.....ACCC will smack.

ACCC will smack, possibly if media publicity grows too loud, with a feather duster and threaten to consider naming 'in extreme cases'.

I contacted ACCC about the Fed Govt's energy comparison site being very misleading & showing false offers/savings/prices (posted elsewhere on AFF). ACCC - 1) They wouldn't allow that. 2) We do not investigate the Fed Govt 3) Contact this Fed Govt Dept responsible for the site.

Duly contacted & told "We don't police the site, we do not take complaints, we pass on 'comments' to the relveant energy provider.

"So if you're told, and shown (as I took the 'senior' public servant through the pages as he did not believe me) you mean there is no process to ensure illegal actions are being taken by some Energy providers? Let alone follow-up?"

Correct!

Sure makes Amex look better & better. Despite some false starts - I've never failed in getting an issue successfully resolved whether it only impacted myself or was a systemic issue.

Received this promo on QF Ultimate yesterday afternoon from [email protected], subject sudoer, kick off your New Year with 20,000 bonus Qantas Points

Clearly targeted but sharing in case it's hiding in someone else's promos tab :)
Nice. Much better than my spend $10k Nov-Dec for 10k bonus on my Biz card.

Your post prompted me to check the website - not quite the same but a sign up bonus (which is not that common for existing AMEX customers). For my QF Gold CC to upgrade to the Ultimate card ($450 pa)…

40,000 bonus Qantas Points

When you upgrade, are approved, and spend $3,000 on your new Card in the first 3 months

I‘ve pondered that card several times but Covid keeps putting a dampener on some of the additional benefits…😔 I’ll take another look - 40k will at least guarantee QF PC for another year.

What's your spend been like over the last few months? We've put quite a bit through ours and don't seem to have this offer.

Bugger all on this card, except for some Amex Offers and a ~$7k transaction with Digidirect (30k QFF points inc Shop Small :D)

Try logging onto your Amex web page, it may appear as a pop up or in your offers?
Doesn't show on my App offers, web page all good.

I didn’t get the bit at the top (in red box). Just the promo as you have below.

Since clicking through to check the benefits of the QF Ultimate Card, the offer has dropped off and been replaced up top with a 10k refer a friend offer!

I don’t know how to get back the 40k sign up…?

We have been putting a fair bit though this card as it's our top ongoing earner at the moment, so this could be why. Running reasonably close to the (low) limit.

Might need to start holding back spend this like we do with flybuys and WWR.

Nothing in the web or app unfortunately. I miss the good old days of the amex offers webpage.

Got the NB, Sony and Net-A-Porter on both my QF Gold CC and QF Biz CC.

More shoe shopping options….?
