I clicked ok to the email, and its intelligently subscribed my email and put me on a recurring subscription,
I just wanted to see what it was all about, and this was even before I installed the app

had to install the app, and login and cancel the subscription,
there was no charge or preauth charge either,

That's good to know. The offer did mention that the renewal would then be charged at 50% after the first year of complimentary premium membership expires.

So you can keep it for the 1 year then just cancel the subscription in time for the renewal.

I cancelled my subscritiipn, and they still said I can use it for a year for free!

While the Calm premium membership might be priced at $80 p.a., I doubt it is worth all the time and effort to get the free membership for a product you are not likely to use in the next 12 months.

So I checked my account and same entries but earlier: June (1,007), July (5,172) & Aug (1,351) statements.

Re white noise 'machines' I have the Soothing Sleep Sounds app set to Oregon Coastal Rainforest, which is just gentle rain. I don't want any cheeping birds or cracks of thunder etc. I got it free years ago and it is invaluable in NYC.
