New Amex statement credits

I've fired off an email to Amex to ask about the lack of offers on supp cards. I'll report back when I get a response.

Just received a response that doesn't reflect the facts. I've followed up calling that out and asking for confirmation whether this is a change in policy or an IT issue

Dear Mr Daver6,

Thank you for your email. Please be advised that the majority of our 'Amex Offers' are only targeted for the Basic Card Account holder and not valid for supplementary cards. If there is a particular offer you would like to check I can do so, however generally the basic card holder gets the offers and only a few are also for supplementary cards.

Kind regards

Helen

Received a response. I'm no longer Mr Daver6 either. Looks like a call will be required to get to the bottom of this. I won't have time to do that until next week. If someone else is keen to make the call?

Dear Daver6,

If there is a particular offer I can check for you to see if an IT glitch, I have been advised by our card team that a lot of the recent offers are only valid for the basic card. Alternatively if you wish to check on this our Accounts Services Team will be able to assist you in investigating further. You can reach them on 1800 673 760 option 3. They have no wait times at present.

Kind regards

Helen

Received offer on Plat Edge.

Be careful as one of my regular restaurants is shown on the participation map and it does not accept amex and it is not avail. on their POS machine. There might be others.
Called and received a nonsensical response that the restaurant signed up for the promotion. I know they have not as they still do not accept amex.
So, will amex provide a credit when they advertise a restaurant as being a participant but the business does not accept the card? Time's money, who is going to bother calling and arguing the point?

I had one of those last year, Amex gave me a credit in the end after a quick phone call.

Didn't really care about the $20, not worth the 20 mins on the phone but it was the principal :)

looks like the days of supps getting statement credits is over, I normally have 11-17 offers at one time

not that i use it more than once a year since the offers have been lame at best over recent times

just another one of continual and many changes that make the card closer to being worthless

surely they know this and its part of their grand plan

I suspect it’s a sign of the times. Everyone is cutting back

Guessing Amex have achieved their goal of getting better acceptance (and had to cut merchant rates & MR point earn to get there) & building up our habit of using our Amex card all the time.

It’s still a much more generous offering overall than we get from bank issued MC and Visa. We all knew that we were taking the Mickey out by using offers on supp cards and they would close that loophole off which they have now. Still, it’s a shame it has now happened.

I don't think it was a loophole or taking the Mickey. It was a feature of the offering from Amex. Now without notice they've just devalued the cards.

I asked over the chat about why no new offers on supps (already enrolled offers still are showing) and was just told that, without specifically referencing supps, "new offers tailored to your account will be added from time to time based on a variety of factors and types of promotions available".

I also asked if the redballoon offer could be added manually but "its a merchant offer provided on solicitation", and then back to the above wording about targetted offers will be available etc etc....

Dunno if that means that supp offers will be back or not.

Weasel words but clearly one of the 'factors' is whether its a supplementary card!

I just called the Amex account team about the lack of offers. Initially I got the spiel that they're targeted etc based on spending. I said that made little sense based on all evidence. I suggest that it's either an IT glitch or a policy change and I'd like to know which one. The bloke was really helpful. He said there is nothing official about a policy change so an IT ticket has been opened.

Should receive an update in 5 to 7 business days. Stay tuned folks!

Very underwhelming, and frankly the Delish Month Out and Hilton etc are pretty useless unless you want to visit a COVID incubator...
Had to edit my post due to some other stuff I was writing about accidentally pasted

This is quite funny. I blame Germany for the lack of supplementary offers too.
