Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

Not sure we have a thread for seating experiences so I thought I would post here.

Last night was the first time I have been on a domestic A330-200 longer than the 1 hour SYD-BNE flight and vv.

I sat in 24J and considering the flight was only ~4:30 hours I felt reasonably uncomfortable. It felt like the middle of the seat back kept pushing into the middle of my back.

Obviously the seat are not quite the same as the A330-300. Any idea why QF/AIrbus decided on these seats?

Is it only me or has anyone else noticed?

I find the seats on EBM and EBN (Weber seats) a bit uncomfortable. They are different to the A330 seats.

See my earlier post here:
...

I'm 183cm and find the shorter back has a lot more verticle movement for the head rest. I like the head rest fully up. Unfortunately this removes back support from around 4 cm below my shoulders. As a result the top of the back padding digs in when I try to recline.

YMMV

I'm on a 2-2-2 today and a 2-3-2 tomorrow.

Actually excited to see and fly the 2-3-2 before it goes (weird I know, have a thing about flying all J configs in the QF fleet).

Will not sit in the middle seat though :)

Well flew both, they are both fantastic, huge improvement for Dom J.

QF aren't selling a full J cabin on the 2-3-2 so people don't have to sit in the middle seat, however if you really want one you can still select it! (I saw a family of 3 use it).

Actually prefer the newer 2-3-2 seats which is what will be rolling out domestically - because AVOD is in the back of the seat and you can watch it gate to gate.

2 very impressive birds, glad I got to fly the 2-3-2 before she becomes a 2-2-2. Love the USB power and media access too.

Interesting! Am on both next week, so I hope my experience is also positive.

I actually find the seats (in terms of contour and shape) to be somewhat similar to the Y/cattle seats on Jetstar, which, somehow, happens to be a very good fit for my back. This, unfortuately, isn't true for most other pax.

Bells and whistles on IFE don't impress me generally. I BYO (iPad/iPhone/Laptop) and for a 4 hour flight to PER, my laptop will last just fine (7 hour battery on that) and iPad also. On long haul, yes, it's great :)

I'm pretty sure I was on one of these yesterday morning, Q412 MEL-SYD - I'm led to believe it would have completed the red-eye PER-MEL service earlier?

Found the seating in Y to be quite comfortable (better pitch?) and AVOD excellent - boarding through dual gates at MEL was also handy, however, SYD was only through front door, so I did get to peep into the J cabin - didn't look that much more spacious then Y - Glad I didn't take the QF offer to upgrade my red-e-deal with points - not worth it to me for such a short flight!

Well since you have power and USB on the new A330 you can save your battery / load media onto the seat back screen if you wish :)

The USB will only play mp3 and images, not divx etc.

QF412 was operated by VH-EBM on Saturday morning prior to it heading to PER and back.

Yesterday my elderly mother flew Syd-Per in J and was on this new config plane.

She reported, besides feeling very cramp, J cabin was full except for 1 middle seat in the last row - so QF are still selling the middle seat.

Anybody knows when the planes will be reconfigured?

EBO (2x3x2) flew and EBN (2x2x2) were the only QF 332 to operate PER-SYD yesterday.

Last night the middle row which has the 3 J seats were mostly unfilled. Clearly QF are aware that the 2-3-2 seating in J is not popular and I was happy that there was no middle passenger as the two seats taken were aisle seats for PER-MEL.
It was a very pleasant flight and my imaginary friend enjoyed the middle seat.

Given the last few posts it seems that Qantas have started selling/allocating the middle seat again (If they ever stopped).

Yes two out of 6 would be a good guide to that on the flight last night.

Well, I'm flying PER-SYD in J tonight, QF568, dep 11:55pm, which is still showing as a 2-3-2, so I shall report back.

I'd have thought the redeye would be one of the last flights these particular aircraft should be operated .....

I'm flying MEL-PER-MEL in Sep/Oct and some of the 332 seat maps showing on EF still have 2-3-2 in business class, so who knows? (I picked 333 flights :) - not that there is anything stopping A/C subs of course)
