New Next Gen Card and Bag Tags have arrived!

A while ago (perhaps in this thread) someone commented that you could order additional/replacement Tags via the Profile section of your FF account, and it was visible to my account.

This seems to have gone missing. Any ideas if it's been moved, or is it back to "call QF and request"?

I notice the option has been removed too. Perhaps everyone was ordering replacement tags when the clearly didn’t need them, or perhaps due to continued delays they decided it was best not to give that option yet.

And I still haven't got my NGCI card and tags yet at all !

I read in the latest The Australian Way that they were due by 'end of this month' and this is the February issue.

PS friend of mine in MEL has still not got his either.

I haven't even used mine (one is used as a hanger on my bedroom door; it seemed fitting). I rarely ever travel with checked luggage (I avoid it at all costs).

It's really only the card I'm interested in, so I can use NGCI; I'm far from convinced that the tags are reliable (what happens if they get ripped off airside, as some have had happen?) so am unlikely to use them - I'll be a luddite and (at least for a while) continue to print out luggage labels :p

.

Having just dropped off the Hertz rental car, I pulled off the e-tag for the tolls, and dropped it into the top zip pocket on the checked in bag which has gone astray. I suspect that the e-tag in the bag, close to the top and near the NGCI bag tag has screwed up the RFID reading and caused the bag to go nowhere. Qantas have no warnings about this anywhere, so I would put this down to a faulty system (not necessarily he physical system, bit processes, procedures and customer documentation are just as much a part of the system as the equipment).

So, if going through a NGCI port, I suggest not putting toll tags or other powerful RFID devices in checked luggage.

Sorry for the late reply but with e tolls, wrap them up in aluminium foil. I used to travel with one for sydney tolls but wrap it up when I went to Mel on the same trip and used cabs. No need to pay the tolls twice!.

Cheers

Now some 6 weeks since I called to advise that my NGCI tag had been taken from my bag, still no sign of the new ones promised. Seriously, this airline is beyond a joke. If I ran my business as badly as these idiots, I wouldn't last a week.

I just came back from a weekend in HKG and was transiting in Sydney. The checkin staff advised me to remove the tag. The had 12 ripped off by the baggage system that day already.

What gets me is they are also a bag tag, without the white paper tape and a ID tag. If it gets ripped off, no ID on the bag. I've put a PC bag tag on my as a backup ID tag.

Cheers

There should be no interference as they're totally different systems. I did do some investigation and the RFID's that are being used by QF won't have problems due to e-tags.

(I did write about it somewhere, not sure if it was this thread, but it won't affect it).

hmmm this issue is concerning me. I'm due to reach SG on the 28th of feb- but then head to LAX for 5 weeks on the 8th of March. Not sure what my chances are of having my card before then- as it will make things a lot easier to get into lounges; priority etc.

thoughts?

The don't do SWAT analysis. Lets start with W for weaknesses.
It is hard fob, thicker than an iPhone. You have seen suitcase wheels, zips, padlocks and handles get torn off suitcases - why would this be any different with Q tag?. The polyester desk printed tags are tried and true. I suspect the print-stock in any self service machine is not quite as good.

To stop the physical rip-off - there is only one cure - modify the suitcase so its flush behind a plastic window or polycarbonate window, and cant poke out proud. Polyurethane glue will also sick it fast.

I suspect the suitcase is flipped side to side to ensure 'reads' of the tag, moving at some velocity - so things poking out can be ripped off. Have to flip it as there is a good chance the tag could be against another bag, or flush against steel rollers. This extra mechanical agitation probably is not good for the old paper tags either. , and a strong anchor point will be tested over time. These things happened at other airports.

When they get around to marking suitcases with machine readable markings around the embedded tag, then things will work - unless irregular shape.

I think a better design would be more flat with 4 holes to you can affix to said suitcase with 2 nylon zip ties.

I'd say your chances are less than zero! I've been alternating between Gold and Platinum for about 10 years (currently Gold) and am still waiting for my first NGCI card! I would imagine replacement cards for those upgrading status will have to wait until they finish the rollout of the first round of the NGCI cards.

I received my Gold NGCI not long after the roll out (I was also on the pilot). After that I obtained WP and my new card arrived about 4 weeks later.

Yes but you can still function without these ? A new system takes time to bed down.

Interesting that Mrs RB received a new silver card & tags in the mail this week. Was silver for 2010-2011 and had quiet QF yr with only 40 SC. Letter explained they appreciated her loyalty- she was comped another yr of gold a few yrs ago also

It's oddly difficult to function without them. I can manually tag my own bags in syd, however then don't get my priority tagging. Yes I realise it rarely works, but it's still a published benefit.

I'm more annoyed that I was specifically promised something a given a time frame of 3 weeks only to now be waiting double that without a resolution.

The whole thing is cough in my opinion. I haven't tried checking my bags but used the swipe card last week. So why swipe, then send a text then print a pass at the gate? Why not print a pass with a barcode when you checkin and be done with it like self checkin. Not sure where you save a few seconds.

I saved a few seconds only to have my bags scanned 5 times and had to empty my bag. The security guy didn't know what noise canceling headphones looked like

The great thing about the whole check in system is the flexibility to mish and mash the various technologies.

Personally I still just check in online anyway, my card just becomes my boarding pass so I don't have to worry about doing anything at all at the airport - period!

So let me get this straight - You are calling QF idiots because they haven't sent you something.

As previously pointed out there, there's likely over 2m+ people due to receive new cards and tags under the NGCI rollout. Based on current information, their designated mailing house is processing the maximum they can handle each week, beleived to be in the realm of 20,000-40,000 units.

And producing these kits is no easy process, as there's custom data printing, tags & packs dependent on the member type, and custom contents based on membership level. It's dammed complex.

So, rather than QF being idiots, I think you're being a bit of a DYKWIA and lacking perspective in the grand scheme of things.

Then line up to get a boarding pass with out the need to drop off a bag, or head to a kiosk, type in you details and wait for a BP to print out for you then.

The text is just a courstesy message saying that you have been checked in.

The point of the paper when at the boarding gate is because it is CASA regulations.

And the security guy processing your bag 5 times is a QF NGCI issue?
