Funnier still was the cardboard boarding passes they all had after using ngci

ejb.
Sent from my iPhone so please ignore auto corrects!

My super dooper plat electronic bag tag didn't stop my bag being left behind in DFW....

Fail.

How do you stop them just walking off?

maybe a voice prompt after they've put a bag down?

or maybe they should've made a little slot to put your card in, where you leave the card for the duration of baggage drop. when you are you done dropping your bags off, you take the card, and that ends the process.

Problem with the slot is the whole idea of NGCI is it's a swipe card system, just tap and go.

There is a good reason for that, the tags are only for use on Australian domestic flights. The super dooper tag is meaningless in DFW.

Worked as designed - non-fail

well it doesn't have to be a slot, it can be a platform that you can put your card on top of.

or they can just have a motion sensor, and if the person has walked away, it ends the session.

Or voice prompt motion controlled warning. If you walk away before ending it calls you back "Oi mate! You haven't finished yet!!!"

I'm assuming that was tongue in cheek....
As the others have pointed out the new tags are for domestic use only so it really is not a fail at all by Qantas :!:

In the IT industry, we have a technical term. A ID10T error.

The people that get ID-10-T errors are usually "12 o'clock flashers" ... when they are so technologically incompetent that all the clocks in their house are flashing 12:00

Problem is usually fixed by RTFM...

When you qualify for Gold for the first time from silver, do you get gold tags?

You did with the old tags so there is no reason to think otherwise with the new.

What will be interesting is whether you get new Q-tags when you drop in status.

SWMBO had an incorrect downgrade to SG for a few weeks due to lengthy posting of JQ points, but apparently not long enough for the kit to be sent out, so no way to verify. Seems a bit harsh if people working their way up to have up to six complimentary Q-tags while plain WPs have to pay for any more than the two (not special WP1s of CLs of course).

What is certain though is that new Q-tags are not provided with renewals kits (if you already have Q-tags). The new renewal 'kits' are completely bereft of anything special other than the card itself; certainly no nice folder or anything near the kit sent out with the original Q-tags.

That has generally been the case with renewals, new baggage tags were not sent out ; more so now because they cost a lot more:!:

I never did this, but weren't you previously able to request more of the old tags if you wanted?

I imagine, as you noted, that they would be reluctant to do this now given the additional cost of the Q-tags (and the fact that the old tags have now run out - damn!). I do remember reading that they would replace damaged Q-tags for free, but I wonder if they would deactivate the old ones in the process.

The FAQ did specifically mention that Q tags are never deactivated. See the last question:

Yep, you were able to in the past!
