New Next Gen Card and Bag Tags have arrived!

I must say, this system has worked really really well for me the last 2 months. I feel QF have fixed most of the teething issues and now have a first class domestic check in system.

Some of the older folk at work don't understand the system but they take a long time with new things anyway.

Only had one issue with it recently. While I know CNS is not NGCI-equipped yet, I still thought using my membership card to get a printed BP would work at the gate, but it didn't as they have no printers installed, so I needed to fish out my proper BP.

Disappointing, and I don't think it was foolish of me to try, as I started using my card at the gate long before BNE and MEL had the coloured poles and bag injectors installed!

I did the exact same thing in about two months ago in CNS, thought for sure I could use my card at the gate.

Must be such an easy fix as well, the scanners even looked as new as the ones I've seen in other ports, but for some reason the printers must be that much more expensive, so they haven't installed them. Useless!

Or possibly it's because it's a shared terminal?

The scanners look exactly the same as the ones in other Qantas terminals, right down to the new shape and display, so if they already have their own scanners installed, I don't see what difference a mini-printer would make.

Found a 'vintage' card around the house today! Very cool

I quite like that vintage look. :)

In the meantime, the new QP card had just arrived my mail box today. Have to admit though, I'm not sure what's the use of it, especially having received the Q-chipped PS card 2 months ago. Say, if I fly QF, the status is already printed on the boarding pass. If I fly JQ/BA/AA etc, they are not Q-chip-enabled (if there's such a word), so there's nothing to be gained with the new card. This seems a bit of a waste.

Just wondering also, is there anyone with status who hasn't received the new card/tags yet?

Just because they look the same does not mean they are QF property, after all Bunnings use the same scanners and I am pretty sure scanning your card at Bunnings wont get you on the plane ;).

Or possibly it's because it's a shared terminal?

Spot on, shared terminals do not support the scanned card as I suspect its too hard for QF to get permission to add the printers, this was confirmed for CNS by me a few months back, I suspect ROK and MKY are the same!

My PG has yet to receive hers. She phoned Qantas and the gist of it seemed as though existing status customers were being serviced from a contract service whereas any customers achieving new status were being handled by Qantas. I think the claim was that all existing status customers would have their tags by July. Seems slow to us.

As OW RUBY has no lounge access associated with it, but QP does for BA and AA (when obeying certain rules) you'll need your QP card if you fly them.

Any other OW RUBY benefits will only require your PS card, just in case it's not in the booking or the BP doesn't print out (useful for Priority AAccess on AA etc).

PS doesn't give QP access either, so you'll always have two cards (only SG/WP/CL need the one for all; the back of those cards has 'The Qantas Club' printed on them and your PS will have 'Frequent Flyer' in its place).

I just got my silver pack, after narrowly missing out for 2 years already (<20 SC) third time lucky, although everything came about a month after I made silver...

Lets see if i can retain it this year!

Yes, Gold here, been Gold all year - still waiting for NGCI kit.

Latest advice from QF is that the rollout of the first round of kits to eligible members will be completed by the end of July. Pathetic when you consider that they announded originally that all would be sent by the end of February, so only running five months behind schedule!!

Same here, Gold for four years not received anything so far... maybe when I reach WP next month I will get one

Still haven't received mine, either my normal QF status card or my QP card.

Gold, flying J. Still no good for me. Bags second last and third last in MEL last Saturday AM (pre ash cloud).

Weirdly two of the 4 bags came out in the first batch, so it seems still hit and miss.

Yes... a QPPS should always carry both cards, which supports the point that, for a QPPS, there is no need for a new QP card. It would've made much more sense for others to receive their kits first.

I just got my QP NB NGCI card in the post today.

Pitty my expiry comes up in a few months, I wonder if it'll still work for NGCI after it expires, given it'll still line up with my NB FF account. I'm not expecting to renew my QP membership this year, after being shafted with the NGCI changes (no bag tags, loss of priority dom checkin, etc). With the Virgin rebrand, changes, and the SQ partnership, I think I'll jump ship.

That's quite a while, I got my QP NGCI quite a while ago =/ haven't actually used it at a pole or NGCI thingy though =D - soon soon..
