They'd have to ban non-travellers from going through security.

Most likely solution is to check on boarding. From memory that's how they do it on intra-Europe flights. Will slow the process down though, hence why QF won't be happy.

When i was flying back from hongkong, they would do a passport check while people were lining up before the gates opened for boarding, and stamped the boarding pass. could do something like that here.

Something along the lines of at SIN. Where there is a room for each boarding gate, that you need to show your passport and boarding pass to enter. When your flight is called you just walk right onto the aircraft.

If they did that, the whole airport would need to be redesigned.

Just where in the cramped domestic terminals would they build these rooms? The queues for 767/A330 services can take up three departure gates.

I'm not supporting it. I was asking the poster before me if we were thinking the same thing.

It is entirley unpractical. As you said, A330/767 flights take up a lot of space. Not to mention the recent 747 flights out of SYD.

no, there were no separate rooms in the the HK airport, but then it was international flight not domestic.

But if they just stopped non-travellers from going through security, there wouldn't be this issue right? Is there a need for non-travellers to have access to the gate?

The permanent tag is told what status you are when checking in, then with hand held scanners, or scanners built into the baggage system, the bags can be prioritised.
That's not printing though, its encoding. Point remains there is no visual signal the bag has priority.

A visual signal is not needed (in theory) as the priority is encoded on the tag, which is scanned and directed accordingly. If this works it should work much better than the old signal using the visual signal.

I've only used them a couple of times and everytime my bags are in the last 20% to come out. Not saying the coloured tags were any better.

I tried searching the thread; has anyone posted PS and WP tags side-by-side?
Thanks to the info on AFF, I have gone from PS to WP this year, so have a full collection of NGCI tags, including my WP tags in the rather more anonymous style envelope than the hard package my PS and SG tags were sent in.

The photo was taken with flash on, so it is a bit washed out. The WP tags, sitting next to the PS tags, are slightl darker. The cards have a completely different colour contrast! With them sitting next to each other, on the front, it's mainly the red vs white roo that's noticeable. Of course, the back has OWE on it for the WP tags.

I don't think anyone ever did, so thanks for that. I have become quite skilled at spotting the difference anyway though, and while I can see why they couldn't use black (the CL tags are that), I'm not sure why Platinum and not a rebrand to Diamond or something else didn't make sense. White would have worked :D

Does the new check in system feel cheap? I don't know but I kind of expect face to face, old fashion service from a full service airline....
Is the underlying reasoning, cost cutting?

However, I commend Qantas on being innovative and trying to improve customer experience - good on them!

My gratitude to QF knows no bounds. I have received my WP card a full month and a half before the end of my QF year. QF has thanked me for requalifying early. I'm overwhelmed at the generosity. (I was close to tears........of rage!!!!) After all I have only notched up 2170 SC's so far, and had the PG benefit at 2100 removed from me.

This is the sort of abysmal communication that QF needs to sort out. It has cost QF approx $5000 as MrsH chose to fly EK to LHR instead of QF because of the lack of PG, but hey ho the poison dwarf from Ireland knows what he is doing I suppose.

why not blame everyone who don't fly qantas, causing QF to not make money resulting in cost cutting exercises and removing FF benefits.

Sorry, but that is the most silly comment I have ever read on this website - cheers, for the laugh.

I have absolutely no idea what this comment means.

i do have that knack.

Everyone keeps blaming AJ for everything. it's not like he woke up one day and decided to piss off as many passengers as he can. I'm sure if it was someone else in his position, the same cost cutting measures would be put into place.

Why would anyone Pu - you like to blame everyone else for not flying Qantas ;)

:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

Just think - if they go right down - you can pick up those stocks you want for a steal, then Our Lord and Saviour Alan Joyce can Resurrect Qantas and you'll be loaded based on your cheaply purchased shares! ;)

Praise the Holy Trinity -

The Father: Alan Joyce

The Son: Qantas
The Holy Spirit: JetStar

and remember, hovering above them all in Her Ever Purity, is the Blessed Mother Virgin Australia

Okay - no more wine for me :)
