New Qantas route - PER to JNB QF65/QF66


Qantas said that the same constraints mean Qantas will not start its planned Perth-Jakarta service and instead plans to increase its Perth-Singapore services from seven flights a week to 10 flights per week, all through T3.

Would that mean the 737 slated to do the CGK flight is just repurposed to fly to Singapore at the same time?
 
I don't understand the issue. What's so special about processing inbound pax from Africa? How come they can process those connecting in T3 but those ending in PER need to be bussed to T1? If you're going to have that silly hassle, then just go via SYD (ok, exaggerating there).

Finally, what about pax flying from Africa to SIN and connecting to QF72. Is there some special handling of these pax?

South Africa isn't on the ETA list. I imagine there's a higher proportion of pax who need to be interviewed on arrival than those coming from LHR or even SIN.

Double so for quarantine requirements.
 
The article mentions that there are "bio-security problems". Bio- Security was always handled by AQIS and the like in the past. Unless I am reading something wrong Bio-security is now handled by the Department of Agriculture Water, Water and the Environment and still not ABF .

I'd imagine the vast majority of those travelling to/from SA would be expat permanent residents?

QF used to run about 10 a week to Sing previously a number of years back....from memory i think it was a late afternoon flight there and redeye back...presume they will use 737 for it...
 
Update: PER-CGK scrapped (and funds handed back to WA Government/PAPL).
PER-JNB is converted to 'seasonal' until end of March.

However, the customs arrangement in PER for the QF JNB is a complete mess. The flight from JNB will dock in Terminal 3, However, those connecting to QFd clear immigration in T3, whereas those terminating in PER will get a 'bus ride' to T1 to clear immigration.

Confused yet?

I have a QF flight from JNB to PER in June 23. Has anyone received an email from QF about changing their flight?
 
Will be interesting to see how this pans out. I’m doing JNB-PER in a few weeks (and connecting to SYD - 90 min connection) so I’ll report back.

Flew over with SQ which was painless as ever… but needed to burn those QF points.

For what it’s worth, there’s a heap of award availability on QF63/64 at the moment over the coming weeks. I’d assume as it had a heap of seats blocked.

I'm assuming the business case would also need to stack up for the applying carrier(s). Assuming they are taking state government/airport subsidies into consideration, and the chance of the route(s) in question surviving beyond the contracted partial-subsidised period.

I then find it interesting how the arrangement swaps in January so the flight will land at T1, then connecting passengers will get a bus to T3/T4. Now that this is setting a precedent for Qantas using T1, I wonder how this will affect future negotiations with Perth Airport
 
These arrangements are a mess and i can understand why QF wont commit post March for JNB. GA obviously dont have PER in their radar so this still represents a great opportunity for QF to develop a presence on this route....But the biosecurity issues are a nonsense...there is nothing to prevent a person connecting from CGK to SIN to PER and present the same biosecurity risk...hope the authorities figure a way to address this....anyway will wait for the advent of QF77/78 again....
 
So I had booked PER to CGK but my flight is still 'Confirmed' and I've had no communication from Qantas.
Any idea how to speed up that process? I called them and they told me the flights are still going ahead.

My PER-CGK flights is still there for June as well...interesting that they said they are still going ahead...the cynic in me is thinking this is ploy by QF to pressure the WA govt to put pressure on border force

I even got him to google the news article and he told me: 'I understand you're worried about the story in the media but your flight is still confirmed and going ahead'. Then he said something similar to: don't believe everything you see in the media.
Is there a way to get through to a better call centre or some other way to speed up that process (i.e. refund)?

Which is how it used to work....
 
I assume if cancelled Qantas would reroute you via. SIN then onto 3K to CGK.
Thanks! That is very useful information. I'd love to be re-routed via SIN at no cost. Would prefer not to rebook 4x tickets last minute before Christmas :)
