New Qantas route - PER to JNB QF65/QF66

...

I think the person at the call centre actually had no idea. I even got him to google the news article and he told me: 'I understand you're worried about the story in the media but your flight is still confirmed and going ahead'. Then he said something similar to: don't believe everything you see in the media.
Is there a way to get through to a better call centre or some other way to speed up that process (i.e. refund)?

My response would have been, "I know, right. Did you see the latest Skytrax ratings? So inaccurate."

Sadly, they don’t care. They’re contractors being exploited for third world wages. Yet companies like qantas, Optus, Vodafone, AAMI etc etc seem to get away with this

Most overseas Call Centres won't be aware of SkyTrax apart from the Philippines. As prior to COVID, their flag carrier PAL regularly advertised their 4-star status.

Perth Airport still want Qantas to relocate and then to demolish T3/T4. As far as I know, they are largely arguing over funding/pricing etc

Yes, thats my take on this as well. Both parties are well adept at drawn-out positions/disputes. Airports are commercial real estate; nothing will move until the business case passes the minimum 'go' hurdles. I suspect the State government will be drawn in along the way as a sweetener to seal a deal. Predictability based on political cycles is usually a good bet.

Has anyone been contacted regarding cancelled JNB or CGK flights yet? My flight is still showing as confirmed to CGK in June?

My JNB flight was changed from flying direct JNB to SYD to the JNB- Perth-Sydney on 28 Feb flight, so I asked them to move me to a day where there is a direct flight (1Mar) .

Still nothing. Says I am flying PER -> CGK soon.

My guess is I get a last minute 'oops, I guess your holiday is ruined.'

I thought SYD went daily from last week?

When I worked for another big Australian company it was a case of "cheaper to stuff (or another word) it up in the Philippines 3 times than to get it right first time here in Oz" 😑

Got notified of the re-routing due to the cancelled flight.
Asked Qantas if I can just cancel the last leg of my trip as I wanted to find another quicker/more efficient way to fly home.
Was told if I wanted to do that, would need to re-price my whole trip which would due to flight prices now would have resulted in my paying 3 times what I paid for initially minus the last leg of my trip!
I thought I was doing them a favour as they could easily re-sell my re-routed flight for a much higher price.

OK just got my reroute and I have Brisbane to Perth, Perth to Sydney and then Sydney to Jakarta. And it leaves a day earlier now.
Do I have any choice around this at all?
Obviously I'd prefer not to have the detour to Perth and back.

Yes call them and ask them to change it to what suites you. First check what is available ( revenue or rewards ticket) and ask for that flight. I had a reward ticket and was prepared to fly a day later instead of JNB- PER-SYD so I could get a straight JNB-SYD flight. It was a rewards flight and they openend up a seat for me ( nothing showed available on the web).

Yes will be fine just call up, should be offered via SYD or via SIN if you want to avoid SYD

May I ask what month is your flight? Mine is June with a revenue fare. I booked through a TA and she says QF won’t change it to JNB - SYD- BNE yet.

Mine was on 28 Feb and now moved it to 1 Mar.

Time is money, but why fly direct when you can connect (for the SCs)
