New Qantas route - PER to JNB QF65/QF66

Big ex-pat SA community in WA that would prefer to fly QF direct than go via ME3 - that said, some of them used to fly QF via SYD to avoid SAA. I imagine this will be very popular with post-covid VFR demand (and would argue the WA govt investment is unnecessary).

However CGK is different and interesting and possibly justifies taxpayer $ to invest in connections with Indonesia. Does QF interline/sell connections within Indonesia from previous flights there (ex-SYD iirc?)?

Good to see PER back in the game to JNB. I recall the PERJNB route was operated by SAA, and I do understand some went via SYD to grab QF63 (the best QFi route IMHO). The SAA Merlot was absolute rubbish, and a good reason to avoid them ex PER, but unavoidable at times. SAA flew both the 343 and 346 (under allegedly nefarious commercial arrangements) I believe, was of the largest global operators of the 340.

QF did operate PERJNB previously as a seasonal holiday service and if I recall it was a 743?

QF42 is possibly the worst QFi route. It leaves at effectively 12am AEST and lands first thing; so if you manage to grab a few hours of sleep, consider yourself lucky.

It's still a 7hr flight, way better than any PER to east coast redeye in terms of shuteye time. QF 2 ex-SIN has almost identical timings.

And usually delayed due to JKT 'efficiencies'

I am not a fan of SINSYD flights, prefer the US/ME routes home.

I have BNE-PER-JNB flight in May - Rang QFF yesterday and was told that changes for the date i am travelling has not been processed yet .

QF used to run about 10 a week to Sing previously a number of years back....from memory i think it was a late afternoon flight there and redeye back...presume they will use 737 for it...

Bumping this up, have the new PER-SIN flights been loaded into the system yet? I can’t see them available for booking until March next year. When were they meant to start? I had heard before this Christmas.

As far as I can see, QF77/78 are currently loaded in the schedule from 29 October 2023 but seats are not yet available for sale.

Not sure what's going on with that second PER-SIN flight - looks like it might not go ahead after all.

Got my PER-CGK flight changed to SYD-CGK.
Just realised afterwards I only have a 2 hour window in Sydney to do the transfer. Should have thought about that more. Otherwise happy with the result.

Reports of a cancellation of QF78:

You should be ok; one PNR, I presume?

Seems the Perth - QF battle has cost QF a few of these subsidies.

But long term it's important to ensure they get a good deal on the PER airport extensions - as they should being the largest tenant.
