New Qantas route - Perth to Paris from July 2024

BNE demand must be weaker than SYD-HNL which is getting the 789.
OT, but unless flying PE, I’d prefer A330 whY over B787. And J is much the much.

Meanwhile, any word or hints on which terminal QF will fly out of from CDG?

They‘re quite civilised times for the return QF34. Not too early out of CDG. Mid morning into PER, so none of that breakfast at 4am stuff and land in SYD in time for dinner and a show (or in my case, shower and dinner).

I can’t really understand how the reality of getting passengers is going to work versus the cost of running two planes to the other side of the world that are 3 hours apart by train.

I guess someone has done their homework.

I guess Paris Olympics and “new route” flush at first, and the probability of Qantas flyers, flying back from other parts of Europe to Paris to return home, avoiding the horrors of Heathrow ( and the UK departure tax, if they are switched on to it). Of course, they will then discover the joys of CDG and the unionised French workforce. 😊

Hopefully will use the CX lounge?

Out of curiosity when did QF last fly to Paris

Yes it's a toss-up which is worse, at least LHR has better OW lounges.

As someone who would be purchasing a ticket rather than using points I had a quick look in September 2024. It looks like being around $20,000 for 2 people to fly Per/CDG/Per on that flight in J. I think that I will still route through Singapore/KL and pay around half that fare. Obviously there may be sales but otherwise it is a bit rich for me. Being retired the saving of a day or two travelling time is not worth the price.

It makes sense they would go high initially on a new route to try to establish what people are willing to pay for a non-stop flight. I imagine there'll be sale fares eventually.

A few thoughts
  • Love that it adds another int-departing domestic flight for F lounge access and appears to be year-round, unlike QF5 to FCO which is only seasonal. Timing looks good too
  • I think the into paris/rome/london and out of the other, on QF, will be attractive to less-well-travelled Aussies who feel "more comfortable" on QF. Hopefully QF makes this (with a middle connection on BA or AF) easier to book on their website to those less familiar with the multicity tool.
  • AF/KLM (?) connections look interesting - wonder how EK will feel about these. Quite a backtrack to ATH etc but maybe there's a few not covered under existing codeshare options

It’s showing in/out of CDG Terminal 2A (joining AA, BA and CX), so technically any OWS and above should be able to access the CX or AA lounge. Alas, J PAX won’t be able to go to the excellent QR lounge in T1.

But handy if you fly into LHR and out of CDG on one ticket.

Besides, you could use that argument with every long haul airline that flies to both LON and CDG.

$5k each way to Europe in J seems not to bad to me. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places.

It is not an outrageous price for other airlines flying into Perth. But for around the same dates you could pick up the occasional SQ flight for near to $8,500 return - obviously with a Singapore stopover. Qatar are pretty much in line with QF. Air Mauritius could also get you to Paris for around $8,500. For us we are happy to slum it up to Singapore in ScootPlus or the like and then travel on someone like Oman for much less. We booked on AY for good prices in years past but they are now relatively much more expensive and are nickel-and-diming for baggage etc. If you don't want the hassle, or fun as my wife calls it, of airline changes in S.E Asia then the QF flight would be a good option.

Dummy run, or flight.
Oct 2024, its still routed via LHR, or SIN with AF.
Dep Mon, ret Fri.

Granted, have to pick the right dates, and if an outgoing plane from PER is cancelled or delayed, the return CDG - PER flight will also be affected.

I wouldn't fly F or J out of LHR, due to the APD, but don't know how people can avoid it, only way is to fly out via this CDG QF flight in J.

Looks like from July onwards QF9/10 MEL-PER-MEL sectors have been zeroed out …. has this new service meant PER-LHR no longer includes a MEL sector?

LHR cops a lot of flak but I actually don’t mind it and think it is streets ahead of CDG which is just a horrible airport. Each to their own though
CDG T1 is a weird one. One of those “seemed like a good idea at the time” things. Terminal 2 used to be equally awful but they do seem to have spent a bit of money sprucing the place up.

Agree, I don’t mind LHR. OWE FastTrack at T5 is excellent. As mentioned earlier, LHR T3 has a good selection of OW lounges.

The CX lounge at CDG is ok but might get a bit crowded on QF34 days. CX has their own flight back to HKG a little later. Not to mention BA and a plethora of AA flights departing in the morning.
