New Qantas safety demo 2020

Anyone know if this is being phased out? I was on an A330 over the weekend and a new audio only safety demo was played… kind of similar to what is used on a Dash-8.

Can understand Qantas not wanting to spend money to produce a new video in these times.

Safety videos are going out of fashion globally, with removal of individual screens and delivery of entertainment via wifi.

It wasn't that long ago that airlines would bring out a new one every year, and some (such as AA) even did holiday versions. Those days are long gone - I'm sure they'll stay around for the international flights with fixed screens, but they won't be pumping money into them when the vast majority of pax (domestic narrowbody and regional) won't see them.

Can someone please tell Air New Zealand that? They used to have some of the best safety videos some while back but the latest ones have just been torturous and cringe-worthy. And they keep churning out new ones for every damn rugby game it seems- ooouhaw.

The safety demo could still be played as the IFE system is never turned off because it has emergency announcements built into it. You can disable the entertainment part of it though but regulatory videos can always be played.

There is a crew brief about a change to the demo around the removal of a mask if the oxygen masks drop so I imagine they just did audio only.
Sometimes the opposite can happen, IFE on but safety video not working - I had that flying SCL-SYD in 2019 and the crew just did a manual demonstration.

I burst out laughing like a 5 year old the first (and thankfully only time) I heard their "Kiwi Rock" safety video. I honestly thought I was hearing things or was badly jetlagged at first having been in Europe less than a week earlier.
