New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

This was published on the COVID NZ Facebook page today:

At least a bit of common sense given the previous rule was based on if you'd been in a state since a pause even if you'd been outside the paused date for 14+ days you still couldn't travel to NZ. This has finally changed!

It's so sad that NZ will allow Australians in but some states won't let those same Australians enter their own turf.

Edit: I wouldn't even care if it required a user pays test before departure, at least give people some sort of option.

With all respect to the NZ gov (I'm over in NZ now), I'm completely confused by some of the logic related to the bubble.

They've just announced that the SA travel will pause however people who are ordinarily residents (this definition is very loose) can return with a negative test (which is odd given it's now standard for all). For a country that was so reluctant to join the bubble for situations like this, they're taking a looser approach than other Australian states (NT, QLD, WA who've all locked out or will lockout Adelaide).

Likewise in the opposite direction. One trip made. 3 cancelled due to bubble pause so far.

Well, this is rather concerning:

In addition, the normal update that is provided on Facebook at ~2pm hasn't occurred yet (now over an hour late).

Oh no! Not good at all, and a bit of an over-reaction in my eyes. No reason to stop the bubble with, say, WA. Then again- they are super cautious over here and most destination are not part of it anymore anyway. Still- really sad to see!

ell WA a separate country, maybe they have their own trans-Gr8AusBight-tasman-bubble.

The one key thing is that WA is still allowing people to transit.

So technically I could fly BNE-PER-AKL. Even though coming from QLD I can't enter WA they'll still allow me to transit to another flight and therefore I could possibly get on to a PER-AKL flight. Yes it's an easy thing to fix but still to this day no state or territory has solved that problem. The great state of Queensland was caught out last year when those women from Melbourne traveled MEL-SYD-BNE. NSW allowed them to transit onto the SYD-BNE flight and they just lied their way into QLD when stoped for checking.

You can understand why this would be the approach given how poorly NZ are doing with their own vaccination rollout (no blame from me - just fact). At least they are giving their own time to get home.

Nah, NSW is out of control. 3rd holiday cancelled since March for me. It's almost on schedule too, 10 days out from departure seems to be the MO.

Thanks Gladys

The point is the entire bubble is paused. NZ clearly have little confidence the WA border measures are sufficiently strong.

If NSW could show a significant downward trend at any point, things may have panned out differently. This is exactly what happened with Vic (mark 4) and QLD recently, once cases were restricted to close contacts already in quarantine, the pauses with those states were lifted even while borders were open with NSW.

Just cancelled my Christchurch, Blenheim, Karamea and Hanmer Springs trip for early September. All QFF and AirBNB so won't lose out, might have eaten $400 on air show tickets, but that means $2,900 out of the total $3,300 cost is refundable.

Will put that to France or Poland early July 2022 now.

Very disappointing.

Why? We had a one way bubble for many months starting last year.
Hang on a second... Has this been confirmed- you can also not enter Australia anymore from New Zealand??? This would create a severe issue for me as I'm due to start with a new employer in Australia in a few weeks' time. Never thought this could be an issue as the one way bubble had been open for ages.
