New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

Hang on a second... Has this been confirmed- you can also not enter Australia anymore from New Zealand??
Nope not at all. Flights from NZ to Australia will continue over the next 8 weeks. Although I'd expect a significantly reduced schedule.

Qantas has published that it will not be operating any flights after 30 July.

The last scheduled flights even from NZ to Australia will be on the 30th of July.

It's not clear at this stage what schedule Air New Zealand will operate. I'm hoping they announce at least one quarantine free flight per week from NZ to AU otherwise I'm going to have to hightail it back on the 30th.

Damn. This is much worse even than before the bubble gad opened- there were at least one or two flights a week usually on Qantas.

Huge problem for me- can’t leave before mid August and need to start my new job in Australia at the end of August. Looks like I might be trapped here!

Surely Air New Zealand will continue to operate at least one (or more) token AKL-SYD/MEL/BNE flights per week with passengers, like they did from October 2020.

As long as the various Australian governments still allow travel from New Zealand, it should still be possible in some form to travel in the NZ>AU direction.

I’m really hoping so, otherwise I will have to get for mercy with my new employer.

Happy to pay for a $1000+ one way Business class flight if needed- I remember that this used to be the going fare back then though Qantas used to have one flight per week too from memory.

I spoke to a few people at Air NZ this afternoon and they're under the impression that a core 787 network will continue as was the case last year.

They have zeroed out all flights from Australia during the pause but are yet to drop the stuff they don't want to operate from the schedule.

I have family on a AU->NZ flight tonight that lands just after midnight. They said check in was normal except a NZ gov official who is checking tests and entry passes during the check in process.

From NZ Herard
Air New Zealand says it is seeing a large volume of customers cancelling travel to Australia. Due to this reduced demand the airline will be rerouting customers booked to travel across the Tasman from Queenstown, Christchurch or Wellington via Auckland from 30 July for the duration of the suspension.

Bum.

Subconsciously I think I knew. Was meant to fly out in a week. Had only booked flights (points so fully refundable), car (fully refundable) and 2 nights hotel (fully refundable).

Definitely not good for everyone on each side of the Tasman... My mate is in BNE but lives in ZQN and has been told he doesn't have to do 2 weeks ISO but has to have a COVID test on Wednesday for his Friday Flight next week....

Correct, this is no different to how things have already been over the past several weeks (for New Zealanders and others eligible to return in the next 7 days).

I had flights with Jetstar to ZQN next week as was going on a holiday to see family but have now rebooked one way with ANZ and will repatriate myself and my family for 8 weeks with my NZ passport. I’m officially over living in this constant state of lockdown and uncertainty.

QF sent out an email late last night advising all fights will be cancelled..
Didn't get one either and I have two one way trips booked end of August, one Auckland to Sydney via Melbourne and one Auckland to Brissy. Just trying to keep all options open though I fear they'll all be canceled and the best I'll be able to book will be one of those once a week $1000 fares with either AirNZ or Qantas. As long as I make it all, I'll be happy though.

none of my three affected bookings have been cancelled yet - but received emails for the two ex NZ ones today:
