Next Qantas CEO: Vanessa Hudson

Not at all awkward when Richard said - "The board firmly feels Olivia is the right person to take Qantas forward"
Fair to say RG didn't do a great job with the two big announcements (QF) / CEO searches (AFL) last week - comes across pretty poorly in the media IMO

Agree
But if a government minister goes for the jugular, why would QF continue CL access for that MP?
because to do otherwise, would look very much like the airline was attempting to influence politicians. Which of course they are, but I wouldn’t think they would want to highlight the fact by particularly discriminating against a critic.

The airline cutting out AFR access etc because of the articles is just plain petty.

Domestic J lounges and high standard MEL / SYD First were opened in 2007.

AJ started at the helm of Qantas in late November 2008
I clearly remember walking into the SYD F lounge and saying to the reception staff - 'Well now we have a LCC CEO at the QF helm it will be interesting to see how he lowers the airline's standards and cuts costs'. They replied 'Give him a go he might be good for the airline'.

How are staff meant to respond to that? Clearly their professionalism kicked in and you got that response.

He might have been. It's only in the perfect vision of hindsight that in the view of many he was not. I'll give him credit though, he was great for the shareholders who are an important stakeholder in any company.

Additionally and generally speaking, customer facing staff would never criticise their employer to a customer even if there is real animus. For obvious reasons (the walls have ears). Actually I would not put them in that potentially uneasy position in the first place by asking that question.

Isn't the English language wonderful.

My intention was only to reinforce that the F lounges were in place before AJ came on board. The comment about the staff was that they were optimistic.

Paranoia however leads to whatever interpretation that seems appropriate to the individual.

I don’t think the lounge receptionist gives much thought to how the airline is run. Obviously now they’re not even QF employees but even at the time I’d be surprised if many could even name their CEO.

It’s the wait staff and managers that are Sofitel

My entry in SIN was processed by a lady wearing a Sofitel name badge, but I guess she could have been the manager.

OT but agree, the reception staff probably have to be QF given they do boarding passes, entry rules enforcement and similar things.

I don't think there's any reason for them to be QF, easy to make the contractor do these things. Many "QF" staff at outstations are actually contractors even though they wear the uniform.

The OP was talking about the SYD F Lounge.
That is what I was basing my reply on and presumed that you were also

I presumed it was the same, as all lounges are in the same contract.
Are there still staff in lounges that still assist with flights? (I’m thinking at SIN J lounge the staff at the counters in the left as you enter, not on the right who check your credentials when you enter the lounge). I assumed these were different staff to those operating the hospitality side of the lounge. These would be QF staff or QF handling contractors - but not, for example, Sofitel staff.

It's all OT, my point was receptionists at lounges aren't expert in running airlines, I bet if I asked my local Woolworths checkout operator who their CEO was they wouldn't be able to name them (nor would I).

I wouldn't ask, nor would I value the opinion of QF lounge staff in how a new CEO may run an airline.
