Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

IMHO the Italian red would go with the Thai food and either the Henschke or the St Henri later with some good cheese.

But I would also be impatient when faced with that choice

No, the St Henri is paired with the Thai Green Curry tonight.

Been ducking (with marked lack of success) some water bombs

Ready for collection then Roo Flyer. Should we leave it full or empty? :D

We have a Thai Green curry with grilled ciabatta bread with garlic, herbs & Parmesan.

Shall we drink it before the St Henri?? ;)

About to start in the Italian Red.

Both are poor options matched to a dish with heat. You want something lighter in alcohol, fruit and some sweetness. Off dry Riesling, Gewurtztraminer, or even a Vouvray. If it must be red, a sparkling red could be a decent match.

Oh God, how long and how much have I drunk. It's bedtime for us all. One bottle left not drunk -The Red Claw is now a present.

With 5 kids in the house, it'll be a very early wake up tomorrow.

We're visiting friends and I don't think they have Foxtel. Their TV room is next to where we are sleeping.

Anyway we're all too sozzled. 2 bottles of champagne, 2 bottles of red and a Pink Moscato. *hic*

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

2012 Coldstream Hills Pinot Noir

Light ruby. Nose of raspberry, red cherries and possibly a hint of redskin (that's a lolly for those in the US).

In the mouth this is extremely balanced. Medium plus acid, medium minus velvety tannins. Sour cherry, juicy red fruits and a hint of vanilla. Finishes medium plus to almost long. Makes me want to take another mouthful.

Should be interested to see how this evolves over the next few years. Drinking well now and expect some lovely tertiary characteristics to develop in the next few years.

One of my staple everyday pinot noirs. :)

Nice find through Vinomofo recently: 2006 "The Pinnacle" Shiraz by Hyde Park. A shiraz from the Grampians with typically explosive blueberry and ripe fruit characters of cooler climate shiraz, yet tempered by the fact that it packs as much of a spicy, black peppercorn and chocolate punch that lends itself to a warmer climate Barossa-style shiraz. Definitely paired really nicely with our Indonesian style spatchcocks with coconut green beans, chilli lime sauce and truffle buttered foie gras tonight.

$12.50 per bottle Vinomofo bargain - top shelf wine at quaffing prices!

Fro those that have aged Penfolds, just a heads up for their Re-corking Clinic.

The Recorking Clinics are a unique free service offered by Penfolds that provide an opportunity to have one of our winemakers assess your wines which are 15 years or older.

Clinics are conducted approximately every two years and will next be held on the following dates in 2014:

Brisbane 5th & 6th August
Sydney 19th - 21st August
Melbourne 2nd - 4th September
Perth 17th & 18th September
Adelaide 1st & 2nd October

I've nominated my interest for the Brisbane dates. Got quite a few bottles to take.

One of them isn't a 1959 Grange, by any chance?

I generally do my own re-corking. Take the cork out, drink the contents, replace the cork. Too easy.

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

[h=1]2008 Moss Wood Amy's[/h]Decanted for about 90 minutes. Was some bottle sediment.

Deep garnet.

Medium nose of mainly primary aromas. Some dark fruit, capsicum, forest floor and hints of leather and barnyard. Also some tobacco leaf.

In the mouth there is plenty of acid. Medium refined tannins with dark fruits to the fore finishing medium minus with some vegetable characteristics.

For me, this is still too young. I have two more bottles and will wait at least three years before looking at the next one. Unsure how much better this will get though. Suspect with some more age and secondary characteristics it should be more to my liking. There isn't anything wrong with this, I just prefer my Cabernet with more age.

2010 Poonawatta The Four Corners Cabernet

I drank this with a mate over a steak dinner recently, at Rare Steakhouse in King St Melbourne. It was on their specials list ($65; $35 at cellar door, so good value) and was recommended by the waitress. I don't normally like Cabernet, unless it has significant age (I find it too tannic) - much prefer Shiraz, so initially dismissed her recommendation, explaining my dislike of Cabernet. She told me that it's not a usual Cabernet. At that stage, I hadn't actually looked at the price or the winery and given her recommendation, I had a look and instantly recognised the winery, having enjoyed their wine previously, primarily at wine dinner a few years ago. Given the price, the winery and the recommendation, ordered a bottle and we both thoroughly enjoyed it! As the waitress had said, very different - very smooth, with none of the usual Cabernet strong tannins. Complimented my eye fillet very nicely! Unfortunately, proving to be a little difficult to get it in Melbourne - a case at $420 from the winery isn't in the budget at the moment, but a couple of bottles would be good to get.

Daver6, your wine review above reminded me that I had meant to post about the Poonawatta - very different to your wine!

2010 Peter Lehmann Drawcard Shiraz

Nice drinking Shiraz, that is currently available at half price ($11, when purchased 2 for 1) at Dan Murphy's, as a 'docket deal'. Excellent value at that price, for a quaffer.

We enjoyed this gem last night with a triple cream Brie. Tamar Ridge is a newish venture of Brown Brothers.
