Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Whilst Tamar Ridge was acquired by Brown Brothers not that long ago, it has actually been around a while.

Oh I understand that. Just that its a new thing for BB to be working down in Tassie.

Finished the dinner off tonight with a fine Rutherglen Muscat from All Saints Estate.

The photo randomly popped up in another thread for a short time last night...

And now for the tasting note:

[h=1]2002 Peel Estate Cabernet Sauvignon[/h]
Decanted for about an hour. Very little bottle sediment.

Initial nose forest floor, dark fruit, leather, dark chocolate and some funkiness. Was actually a little concerned about possible low level TCA. This blew off over time, much to my relief. Hints of mushroom and bacon fat.

In the mouth medium fine tannins and medium plus acid. Dark fruits fill the palette with hints of chocolate for a medium slightly astringent finish.

Not sure this wine is going to get much better with more time. A good wine, especially at the price point.

If Masterchef put that on a plate I'd puke. Have you got a bottle that tastes like wine :)

my wine this week is a Taylor's St.Andrews shiraz from the Clare.2002 vintage.
Very smooth and an enjoyable wine.Unfortunately only the one bottle as I got it in a shiraz mystery dozen.

So tonight a Seppelts Partalunga 1988 Cab Sav.Off it's peak but still very nice smooth old red.

I've been enjoying a 2009 Cab Sav from Franks Family Vineyard in California. So smooth.

A next door neighbour sent me this photo last night:

and asked whether it was an "alright" wine. My Penfolds Rewards of Parience is an older version (where 2002 is the last vintage reviewed) so I knew the 2002 vintage was a ripper - so I offered my advice (me to come over and try it with them :D). She replied:

"So does it matter if it hasn't been stored lying down? And in a cupboard? Should Justin use it in a beef and red wine curry?"

I fear that with dry cork it may be assigned to that duty. But so told him to try it first as he cooked the curry...and invite me over to try both (he's a great cook like his wife).

Edit: just been advised it's a Magnum - oh happy days :D (and a long night ;))

So how was the curry?

Why do you think it took me so long to reply, I was drunk all day yesterday :D

I gave her another option. Told her to tell Justin to cellar it properly and wait until the 2018 Penfolds Tastings and take it to have the winemakers open & taste :D
