Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Rymill The Surveyor Coonawarra Cab Sav 2010. This is what this region is best known for and 2010 was a good year.

Opened a Voyager Estate 1999 Cabernet Merlot last Friday. Very smooth and has complex flavours. Quite ready to drink now.

Bit OT, but I'm wondering how people view a couple of DMs current offers - the 2008 Bin 407 Cab Sauvignon, or the 2008 Bin 389 Cab Shiraz, both priced at $360/6?

Drinking a lot smoother than I remember the first couple. Paired with a pasta with a tomato reduced sauce replete with spices and herbs from our garden.

I loved the second glass with some aged cheddar watching Top Gear guys playing with the Porsche 318 Spyder - not a car buff but amazed at the Abu Dhabi track straight speed and cornering. Now if I had the money, knowledge and love of cars

Opened a 2004 Cullen Diana Madeline last Friday night for my younger son's 30th. Under cork, which was a bit soft as I extracted it, so it was not looking good from the get-go. Wine was oxidised, not horribly, but it had lost its mojo. Tannins were soft, but basically it had no liveliness. Damn corks .

Interesting JohnM seeing I had one that was gritty so of course I opened a second one and it was ok. Lucky I buy only 6 at a time rather than a pallet.
I have decided that I prefer Moët to Verve Clicquot so that saves the pennies seeing Moët is on special every month or so.

Love the special wine glass.

For those that like Chardonnay, Vintage Cellars currently has 2013 rk on special at $39.99 ea if you buy 6, plus you get a bonus share worth $25 if you're a wine club member. If you combine it with the current Amex offer of $20 if you spend $100, brings it to $195 for 6, or a little less than $33 a bottle!

I drank an rk with two friends over dinner 6-12 months ago and really liked it, but friend that bought it said it was $50-60! Seems to have come down in price a lot. Not sure what vintage I drank - likely 2012, but possibly 2011 or 2013.

For those that don't know, rk is made specifically for vintage cellars by Rick K (can't spell his surname!) of Giaconda, maker of one of Australia's best Chardonnays. But at over $100 a bottle, I can't afford it!

rk is a bigger worked style. Vintage Cellars in South Melbourne had it on tasting 4-7 this evening and again tomorrow 12-4. They also have a reasonable amount of 2011 (odd they don't have any 2012!). Staff member told me that 2011 is a lighter style than 2012 and 2013.

Came over to my parents home, to spend the night watching the Aust v France Test Match.

First up with dinner (fillet steak, mushrooms, potatoes, snow peas and peas), paired with this lovely bottle of 2004 Bin 389 from Dad's cellar, aerated and decanted for an hour before drinking:

Full body and smooth drinking, will continue to cellar well.

What's next Dad?? (I'm staying the night :D)
